Phase 4 Phonics game ‘Odd and Bob’.

The link below will take you to a Phase 4 phonics game that the children are familiar with from playing at school. This link is to Phase 4, however, the website offers many games for the Phonics Phases 1-6 enabling you to focus on any phases you need a little extra practice on. They are a great resource and the children really do enjoy them.

Phase 4 Phonics

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Here is a little challenge to help you along with your Phase 4 Phonics. Using the pictures and missing blends given, can you complete the sentences below? Once completed, why not extend the activity by creating your own sentences, writing them in chalk, painting them, or any other method you can think of? Can you think of any other words that contain these blends? Can they be found in any books you have?

Phase 4 Phonics

Busy Bee and I are hoping that you are feeling a lot more confident with your Phase 3 & 5 Phonics sounds now. For good measure, we will begin to look at Phase 4 which has a big focus on blending letters. As children progress through Phase 4 they become more confident and skilled in reading and spelling words with a greater number of letters and graphemes. You can see below what this phase covers.

Here are a few little tasks that you could have a go at completing to gain confidence in this phase of phonics.

Activity 1

The below sentences build on the skills learned in Phases 2 & 3.
Can you spot the capital letter and full stop in each sentence?
Practice reading the sentences below and if you struggle with any words, think about which grapheme it is that you struggle with e.g. is it ‘ow’ (as in down)? If so, go back and practice ‘ow’ words.

Phase 4 Sentences
Fred and Brett spent a week in Spain.
I kept bumping into things in the dark.
Milk is good for children’s teeth.
The clown did tricks with a chimpanzee.
The frog jumps in the pond and swims off.
I must not tramp on the flowers.
A crab crept into a crack in the rock.
A drip from the tap drops in the sink.
I can hear twigs snapping in the wind.
It is fun to camp in a tent.

Activity 2

Can you complete the words below using the given missing Phase 4 blends? Perhaps you could have a go at writing them down or putting the words into a sentence.
