Safeguarding, H&S governors involvement

The Health and Safety Governors met on the 18th November. They spoke to a range of children about online safety and what happens in school to ensure they are kept safe. The Governors were impressed with their knowledge and confident that the curriculum and assembly offer is robust.

Governors carried out a ‘spot check’ with a member of staff to see how well they understand the policy and procedure around safeguarding. They were reassured in the staff members confidence and understanding.

Governors analysed the record keeping linked to safeguarding and could see that every element of incident is well recorded with subsequent analysis and actions following.

Year 2 Snow day !

What a lovely white morning it is!

We’d like you to have a lovely snowy day!

Here are some of the things we’d like you to do while you are enjoying the snow.

  • Read and record in their diary
  • TTRS links to current maths – practise your times tables

Computing

  • You could go on your own nature walk and take some pictures of nature in the snow or take some pictures of your house or garden- think about the skills you have learnt in computing… hold the camera still, does is have good lighting, make sure the subject is in the frame and check it is clear. Email your pictures to us on the class email newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Literacy

  • For writing we have decided we want you to record a diary of your snow day so we can use it in our literacy writing and Chance to Shine, it needs to include:
  • the food you had for breakfast, dinner and tea
  • the activities you completed – did you stay in your pjs? go for a walk? build a snowman? throw snowballs? snuggle up in the warm watching films? let us know what you did
  • how were you feeling when you found out it was a snow day, how did you feel in the snow

Art/DT

  • You could draw a picture of your of snowy house or garden.
  • Snow-related activities e.g. build a snow sculpture, can you make a few and order them from tallest to shortest?

Any work you complete please bring to school or email us on newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Have a lovely day,

Miss Lowe and Miss Hill

Wider personal development: school trips and visits

We are passionate about the children experiencing education outside of the classroom which is why we put on so many exciting trips for all year groups throughout the year. Providing meaningful experiences can not only support children with their learning back in the classroom but it provides valuable opportunities for children to develop skills such as teamwork, resilience, to gain a better understanding of our world and most importantly, to have fun!

Please visit Parent Pay to see if your child has an up-and-coming trip. This term we have both cinema and pantomime trips organised as well as Christmas events at school! How exciting!

Just a reminder that we have a school Facebook page where you can find regular updates such as photos from trips.

Our Team

We pride ourselves on being a supportive team. We ensure that members of staff are on duty at the start and end of the day should you need to speak to us.

Winter illness information for parents/carers

Please see below information from the Health Protection Hub we have been asked to forward to parents/carers.

Teaching good hygiene habits

Parents/carers are urged to encourage good hygiene habits in their families, such as handwashing and using a tissue to catch coughs and sneezes. Regularly washing hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds or using hand sanitiser when convenient, is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of germs.

Knowing when to keep your child at home and when to send them to school

Children are encouraged to stay in school or nursery with symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat or slight cough (if otherwise well and do not have a high temperature), but should stay at home if they feel too unwell to attend and/or if they have a fever.  They should stay home until the fever has passed and they are well enough to attend.  If they have diarrhoea and/or vomiting they should stay home for at least 48 hours after these symptoms clear up.  Let the school know if your child is diagnosed with other illnesses such as scarlet fever and they can advise you how for long your child should stay off school.

Stopping the spread of stomach bugs

Stomach bugs spread easily in schools and nurseries. If you or your child have diarrhoea and/or vomiting, washing hands with soap and warm water and using bleach-based products to clean surfaces will help stop infections from spreading. Don’t prepare food for others if you have such symptoms or for 48 hours after symptoms stop. If you are unwell, you should also avoid visiting people in hospitals and care homes to avoid passing on the infection to those more vulnerable. It’s important not to return to school, nursery or work until 48 hours after symptoms have stopped.

Getting vaccinated

Infections such as flu, which see a seasonal increase in winter, are easily protected against with vaccination. All primary school age children, those aged 2 years (who have turned 2 years old before the  1 September 2024) all 3 year olds and secondary school children from Year 7 to Year 11 are eligible for the flu vaccine.  This will protect the children themselves, the school community and elderly relatives.

It’s also important to ensure your children are up-to-date with their routine vaccinations, which protect against diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria and polio. If you are unsure of your child’s vaccination status, you can check their “red book” or contact their GP.

NHS UK also provides easily accessible guidance for parents to help manage winter illness at home.

Just a few reminders:

  • We do not permit parents to use their mobile phones on site at any time for safeguarding reasons.
  • Year 5 and 6 children are permitted to bring in mobile phones to use in an emergency if they travel independently to and from school. These phones MUST be handed in to the teaching assistant as soon as they arrive at school. They will be locked in the office and then returned at home time. We do not take any responsibility for any mobile phones that are not handed in. All children in all other year groups should not have a phone on site unless discussed and agreed with the teaching team.
  • Year 3 children who are not registered as Free School Meals now have to pay for their dinners. If you need more details or believe you may qualify for Free School Meals, please call the office on 01952 387720.
  • Nail varnish and what we deem as ‘extreme’ hair styles are not permitted whilst the children attend school.
  • Small stud earrings are permitted, but should be removed on PE days. If this is not possible, they will be taped for PE in line with health and safety regulations. Please ensure all other types of earrings are left for weekend and holiday use.
  • PE kits – We are continuing to allow children to come to school in PE kits on their PE days. Please see the website or email your year group teachers for information around this and anything else to do with the lessons your children have.

Please remember that classroom doors open at 8:35am and registers are taken at 8:40am.

Thank you for your continued support.

Our Curriculum

We teach a varied and balanced curriculum here at Newdale. In addition to our core subjects (writing, reading, phonics, maths and science), children are immersed in a range of foundation subjects. These subjects are broken down into key knowledge which is built on across units, the academic year and consecutive years.

Here are some of the lessons children learn at Newdale…

Y1-6 Parents’ Evenings w/c Monday 2nd December 2024

Y1-6 Parents’ Evenings Week Beginning Monday 2nd December 2024

To give parents and carers plenty of notice to book their child’s appointment, we will be sending out letters next week. Your child will be given a letter by their class teacher. Please fill out and return promptly. Please note that we are no longer using the online system and have reverted back to having paper letters. Our School Cloud subscription was over £1000 a year for a service we only used twice a year. Instead, we will use this money to continue to subsidise for trips and visits.
