Safeguarding, Health & Safety Governor Involvement

The Health & Safety Governors met this week and began the meeting with an escorted tour of our SEND provision rooms. Mr McFarland explained the purpose of each room and the different resources available within these learning environments.

Following the tour, governors reviewed the new Use of Reasonable Force policy, along with the accompanying reporting documentation. They then considered the Local Authority Safeguarding Audit Report and discussed the next steps arising from its recommendations.

The RoSPA playground report was subsequently analysed, and discussions were held regarding site manager cover while the current postholder is absent on health grounds.

Governors also enjoyed carrying out a ‘spot check’ with a randomly selected member of staff. This time, the focus was on the Pastoral Manager, Mrs Byrne-Corbett. Governors were highly impressed with her knowledge and understanding when responding to some challenging questions posed by the Lead DSL.

Governors went on to approve several key policies before concluding the meeting by analysing the Summary Report prepared by the school’s SIP.

Reception to Year 6 Stay and Share a Story – Wednesday 23rd September 2026

We are really looking forward to welcoming you to our Stay and Share a story session on Wednesday 23rd September at 2:45pm.

Please enter your child’s classroom through their usual drop-off/pick-up route:

Reception, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 5 – enter via the playground classroom doors

Year 1 and Miss Curtis’ class – enter via the decking area

Mr Jackson’s class – enter via the stairs by the Visitor Car Park

Playground gates will open at 2:45pm.

Due to limited space, we can only accommodate one parent/carer per child. Please confirm your attendance through ParentPay, so staff know how many parents to expect.

For this event, the children will remain in their classrooms. If you have more than one child in school, you will be able to move between classrooms and spend time with each of them individually. The event is free to attend.

We look forward to seeing you, and the children are excited to share a story with you

Site Manager Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

I would like to let you know that our much-loved Site Manager, Mr Thomas, will be spending some time away from Newdale while he undergoes some medical treatment and attends a number of appointments.

Mr Thomas is hoping to return to school as soon as he is able, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him back when the time is right.

In the meantime, arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth running of the site, and members of our current staff team will continue to be on gate duty each morning and afternoon.

I am sure you will join me in sending Mr Thomas our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

Welcome to Year 3!

Here are a few things to help you get started:

PE will be on Mondays (outdoor) and Fridays (indoor). You can wear your PE kit to school.

Remember to bring your water bottle and a healthy snack for breaktime.

We can’t wait to see you in our new classroom!

Notice of Parent Governor election and request for nominations

I am writing to invite parents, guardians and carers of registered pupils to put their names forward for election to serve as parent governors of this school.  There is one vacancy. The term of office of the elected candidates will start on Thursday 19th November and will last for 4 years.

Please read the notes as a link below and if, after doing so, you would like to put your name forward as a candidate please complete the Candidate Nomination Form (Form 2) and the Disqualification Declaration Form (Form 3) and return them to me by Friday 18th September.  It may be that you would wish to propose another parent to serve as a parent governor.  Please note that in this case the parent in question should complete the nomination form after you have discussed the possibility.

  • Candidates need to submit a personal statement in support of their nomination, not more than 500 words giving:
  • Evidence of skills and experience the governing body desires.
  • And / or their commitment to undertake training to acquire or develop skills to be an effective governor
  • If seeking re-election details of their contribution to the work of the GB during previous term of office.
  • How they plan to contribute to the future work of the GB

They may not indicate that they are endorsed or supported by any particular group.

Only parents who now have and will have children registered at the school on the nomination closing date of Friday 18th September and term of office start date Thursday 19th November 2026 are eligible to stand for election.

If it is necessary for there to be an election I will provide further details of the arrangements.

Finance & Personnel Governor Involvement

Finance & Personnel Governors met on Monday 13th July. They reviewed the final staffing structures for both the nursery and school and were pleased to note that the support team remains strong despite ongoing budget pressures. Governors examined the budget and future projections in detail, recognising the increasing financial pressures associated with recruiting additional staff to support the growing number of pupils with SEND needs.

The Pupil Premium Lead shared the work undertaken this year and the positive impact it has had on children. Governors acknowledged the importance of this work and agreed that it should remain a key priority within the School Development Plan next year.

Governors also reviewed the parent survey results and discussed the actions that need to follow. They were delighted to read so many positive comments from parents about the school.

Finally, they considered staff wellbeing and reviewed the measures planned for next year to ensure that all staff feel valued and supported.

A Reminder About Labelling Belongings for September

As we prepare for the new school year, we’d like to remind all families about the importance of labelling children’s belongings – including clothing, water bottles, bags, and any other items pupils bring into school.

Every September, we are very quickly overwhelmed with unnamed jumpers, coats, bottles and lunch bags. Despite our best efforts, a large number of these items end up in recycling simply because we cannot identify their owners.

To help reduce waste and ensure belongings make their way back to the right children, we will be introducing a new approach from September:

  • If an item arrives in school without a name label, staff will write the child’s name on it using a permanent marker. This will help us manage lost property more effectively and prevent the growing pile of unclaimed items we see each term.

Clear labelling makes a huge difference – it saves time, reduces waste, and ensures children don’t lose the things they need each day.
