Value of the Month- April

Our value of the month for April is Freedom

What is Freedom?

  • Rights and responsibilities
  • Self-expression
  • Freedom of speech

Suggestions for parents to work with children at home:

  • Together, talk about people in history who were being ruled by someone else and wanted freedom, e.g. Moses and the Israelites, slaves in the US before the Civil War; Hanukkah; Nelson Mandela.
  • Discuss with your child about historical slavery and modern day human trafficking.
  • Discuss with your child about the Syria Refugee Crisis.
  • Different Rules of Law around the world. Discuss with your child democracy in Britain and how this may be different from countries around the world.
  • Freedom of self- expression. Discuss with your child the importance of their identity and being able to express themselves. Explain that people living in Britain are able to express themselves how they choose; as long as it doesn’t break the law (Individual Liberty).
  • Discuss inner freedom– having positive thoughts. What does inner freedom feel like? When do you feel most free? What kinds of thoughts make you feel free? Constrained?

We are loving seeing your home learning blogs and the Jumping Orange stories are fantastic! Keep sending them to us through purple mash email or adding them to the blog.

We hope you are getting out in the beautiful sunshine, fingers crossed it lasts!

Keep doing you daily fitness! I joined in with Joe Wicks again today and did it in the garden! My legs are aching now but I feel so much better for doing it!

On purple mash are your daily maths activities for you to complete! We would also like you to complete the News report about the volcano eruption and the Volcano poem!

Keep up the super work Year 3 and make sure you keep in touch via email on purple mash!

Mrs T, Mrs P and Mrs M :) :) :)

More phonics support…

We hope you are finding Miss Hammond’s videos helpful, along with the Read, Write, Inc videos we advertised yesterday.

Another fantastic help in this difficult time is provided by the website: https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/

Your child will be familiar with some of their games. They are now providing FREE games.

Monday 23rd March in KS1 Hub 🙂

We had a great first day in the KS1 hub. We made the most of the lovely weather and went on a little walk around the school grounds. We used our senses to describe the things we could see, hear, smell and feel and challenged ourselves to write descriptions using two adjectives and a comma. When we returned, we spent some time in the sunshine and drew a picture of some of the things we had seen. We also spent some time practising our spellings and playing a 1 more or 1 less Maths game. As a special treat, at the end of the day, we got to play a board game outside.

We would love to see some of the learning and outdoor activities that you have been doing at home – you can share your work and photos on the blog 🙂

Year 3 Home Learning!

Hello Year 3’s!

Year 3 teachers have set maths work for this week on Purple Mash for you to start to complete at home. Don’t forget you can use the other websites we gave you too!

Further to the information lists we provided last week here are some suggested ideas for this week’s learning:

  • Read to yourself or an adult and record in your reading diary.
  • Practise your times tables on Times Table Rockstars/Hit The Button.
  • Complete writing-based/topic learning tasks on Purple Mash.
  • Take part in Joe Wicks’ Daily PE lessons on YouTube.
  • Research European countries and create a mini tourist guide for each one you research.

Life skills activities:

  • cooking (whilst supervised by an adult)
  • Gardening
  • Practising telling the time – o’clock, quarter past/quarter to and half past. Then try 5 minutes intervals! Use analogue and digital times!

A bit of fun:

  • Check out the list we gave you for some fun ideas!

Please note that these are just suggestions. Please remember to look at the information sheet we provided for other ideas to support your learning.

And finally, if you’d like to post pictures to the homework blog of you cooking,  completing an exciting task or just simply enjoying yourself, then we’d love to see!

Keep well and keep smiling,

Mrs Trevor, Mrs Mclaughlin and Mrs Pablos  :)

Now the season is changing, embrace enjoy right outside your door. Explore nature and take in lots of fresh air! Have lots of fun in your garden, look at the changes outside and just take time to listen to the sounds around you! Hunt for bugs, watch the birds and maybe make a den!

We would love to see some of your pictures so go get outdoors and embrace and appreciate nature :)
