Year 6 Upcoming Events

Dear Parents/Carers,

As year 6 near the end of their time at Newdale, we have lots of events planned to celebrate.

Friday 15th July – Year 6 treat.

To celebrate the end of a wonderful year, we would like to treat the children to a pizza lunch followed by ice-creams. Food will be paid for by school and ordered from Pizza Hut so they will not need a packed lunch that day (unless they do not wish to eat pizza!). We will not eat until 1pm so we can picnic altogether outside after the official lunchtime has finished, therefore please ensure your child has a snack for breaktime to keep them going a little longer than usual! We will order a gluten free pizza for those we know require this. Any other issues, please inform us and confirm, via ParentPay, whether your child will want food so we can order enough.

Wednesday 20th July – Peter Pan performances.

The children have been working incredibly hard to prepare for their production of Peter Pan, which we are delighted to present to you over two performances at 1.30pm and 6.00pm. Tickets for these performances can be purchased via ParentPay and we kindly ask that all children are in school for 5.30pm to prepare for the evening performance. We look forward to seeing you there!

Thursday 21st July – Year 6 Leavers Assembly.

For their final farewell, year 6 will be hosting an awards ceremony, distributing awards to peers who they have voted for in class. The assembly will begin at 2.00pm and there will be an opportunity for photographs to be taken at the end. The children can bring in smart clothing (such as their prom outfit), if they wish to change into this before the event, however this is not compulsory.

We would also please ask for each child to bring in a strong plastic bag to school from Monday 11th July onwards, so that they can bring home their books from this year.

Thank you for your continued support and co-operation.

Fun in the sun

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are so lucky to have a continuation of the lovely, sunny weather this week.

Please ensure you apply sun lotion to your child before they come into school (School staff are not allowed to apply sun lotion) and make sure they have a named water bottle to keep hydrated.

It is also a good idea to send them in with a hat (again please put a name label in it!).

We have opened up some classrooms to allow children the option to come into school at lunchtime should they get too hot.

We never complain about the sun but do understand that rising temperatures can come with warnings that we have to abide by.

Please help us, to help your children feel comfortable in school this week.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

ASC Homework offer

Dear Parents/Carers of children who attend After School Club,

We are delighted to be able to offer wrap-a-round care at our school, so that working parents can have the flexibility they need.

We want to let you know that during every slot for After School Club, there will be opportunity for the children to complete homework including spellings, reading and topic linked activities.

It maybe that you would rather that homework was completed at home with you and of course that is fine. We will not be forcing children to do their homework but will be asking them each day if they would like to have time to get it done.

Clearly the team will not be able to carry out larger pieces of homework with them e.g. making a castle, but they will be able to support with daily homework.

Please talk to your children about this option, as it will be up to them and we will not force them.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Year 6 RSE Lesson

Dear Parents/Carers of Year 6.

Next week, year 6 will be having their RSE lesson. If you do not wish for your child to be part of this lesson, please get in touch via the reading diary. If we do not receive communication, then we will assume that consent has been given.

Thank you, Mrs Thomas and Mr McFarland.

Art Day in Year 6

The theme for Art day this year was Art and Geography, celebrating artists from all around the world.

Year 6 had a brilliant Art day, celebrating the work of Katsushika Hokusai, with a particular focus on the Great Wave Off Kanagawa.

We began the day with some map work and researching Japan. We then explored and commented on his work, experimented with hot and cold colours, before creating our own final, chance to shine piece.

Can you spot any Telford landmarks hidden between the waves?

Food waste

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are suffering ongoing issues with a few children who sneakily drop food under the tables at lunchtime.

Very often this food has hardly been touched e.g. whole apples and sandwiches.

Some children are throwing food under the table that has been supplied by home and other times it is food supplied by school.

It is really important to have conversations and better still get children involved in making their own packed lunches so that they have some control over what it is they will eat. Our teams try so hard to ensure that children are eating a good lunch so they have enough energy for their afternoon sessions.

I have asked our catering managers to come into school to see if they can do anything differently in order to prevent school food from being dropped on the floor.

We understand that some children are just so desperate to get outside to play that they rush their lunch. However, during assembly we will again be discussing the need to slow down and eat a good lunch.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

TikTok

TikTok 10.6.22

Dear Parents/Carers of children in Year 6,

It has been brought to our attention that very many of our Year 6 children have opened TikTok accounts. In order to open an account, children need to be 13 years of age and hence no one in primary school should have one. The reasons for this are that it is known that children below the age of 13 have not got the maturity to post appropriately and manage what has been posted.

Unfortunately, we have discovered that someone has opened an account and called it Newdale Primary School. The content of what has been posted demonstrates very clearly why the age limit is 13. Please can you regularly check your child’s phone and the accounts they have open.

We ask you to close TikTok and any other accounts they have that are above their age range please.  We suffer no end of issues as a result of mis use of online platforms, many of which end up coming into school.

Many thanks for your support in this ongoing tricky area.
