Secondary School Applications

Dear Parents/Carers of children in Year 6,

It is paramount that you put in your application for your child’s secondary school as soon as you can please.

Only 36 applications out of 61 have been made so far, despite a reminder.

Please can you make sure you complete this task over half term so that you will avoid disappointment at a later time.

Any questions, please contact your child’s class teacher via their home school book.

RE Survey reminder

Just a quick reminder about completing our RE Census. We are hoping to hear from as many of our Newdale families as possible, by Friday 22nd October.

This survey will help us to understand more about our families; we would really like an updated picture of the different religions, beliefs and values held by the children, and families, within our Newdale community. This will support us in ensuring that our Religious Education offer is as inclusive as possible for our community.

We would be really grateful if you could spend 5 minutes completing the survey below.

Thank you in advance, for you support 😊

Halloween Event- Reminder

On 22nd October, we will be inviting your children to either dress down or wear Halloween fancy dress. We would like them to bring their costume in a bag to change into – they will need to wear school uniform before then. Please do not send in face paints, as we are not able to apply it for them. Due to restrictions, our teachers are planning lots of exciting activities that they can carry out in their classes, including Halloween arts and crafts. If your child chooses to bring in a costume on that day, please can any Halloween themed props be left at home e.g hats and masks are fine to bring in.

Covid Update 15.10.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

We continue to battle the virus in our school community and continue to rely on parents supporting us at home.

Please do not send your children into school if they are displaying Covid 19 symptoms

  • a new continuous cough
  • a high temperature
  • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

You need to get a PCR test booked straight away please and let us know the result.

There has been some changes in the advice we have been given as listed here …

For pupils identified as household or close contacts by Test and Trace:

  • Household or close contacts of a positive cases are asked to take LFD tests daily for a period of 7 days from the start of what would have been their self-isolation period.  This is in addition to the PCR they will have been recommended to take.

This is a request and though it is not issued by law, we ask you to help us in keeping control of the virus in our school.

We are ever hopeful that the vaccine rollout in secondary schools will impact the transmission rates from older siblings to Newdale children.

Rest assured we continue to do all we can to keep your children virus free.

Children in need fundraising

We are very excited to announce that children in Year 4 will be taking part in a ’Big Fancy Dress Singalong’ in aid of Children in Need to help raise money for child mental health projects. The children will be filmed by the BBC and the video will be on local social media via BBC Radio Shropshire’s Facebook page.

We hope that you will help us to raise money for this worthy cause by following the link below:

Reading in Yr 6

Dear Year 6 parents,

We wanted to remind you of the high emphasis we place on home reading and homework in year 6.

As reading is at the very heart of all learning your child will do, both here and at secondary school over the next five years, we expect all children to read for a minimum of five nights and comment on what they have read to build vital skills of comprehension, and to help them engage with the book they have independently chosen. Such tasks also support their ability to create passages of their own writing, and to consider how to structure their responses.

In May, your child will complete an end of KS2 reading SAT paper which is long – one hour of reading three texts and answering questions about each one. Clearly, this requires quite a lot of reading stamina, and this is another reason that we encourage so much this year.

In addition, we have set all children up with access to the quick Read Theory programme which we have found invaluable in the last few years. We allow time for this in school but if your child can access this at home, their morning work can be spent on other skills, such as quick maths or handwriting / spelling practise.

We do appreciate your support with this as we strive to ensure your child makes the best possible progress they can this year.

Kind regards,

Mrs Thomas and Miss Clay
