Remembrance Day

Reception learnt about why people wear poppies at this time of year. We marked the day with a two minute silence at 11am and made our very own poppies.
We also watched a special animation to try and learn about Remembrance. It shows the Great War experienced by animal inhabitants of the WW1 battlefield. You may like to watch this again at home:

Here are the poppies we created today…

Friendship Week in Reception : Week Beginning 15th November

FRIENDSHIP WEEK 2021
Friendship week is week commencing 15th November here at Newdale primary. We will be looking at the importance of friendship and how to be a good friend.

On Monday 15th November, your child is invited to bring in a special ‘teddy bear’ friend from home to join us in celebrating friendship week.
Please label with your name so we can ensure your teddy goes home safely.

Please note this is just for the Reception Children.

Many thanks The Reception Team

Red riding hood

Next week, in mighty oaks, the children will be learning all about Red riding hood.  As part of this mini theme we would love to share photo’s of your child’s grandparents.  Please could you send in a photograph of them via the evidence me app, or if you prefer print one to send in.

Thank you very much for your support

Times Tables

We have had a few questions from parents about our half termly times table check, which was referred to in their child’s ‘What has my child achieved this half-term?’ update.

This check is completed during the last week of every half term rather than their weekly times table test. The aim of the test is to assess your child’s progress in times tables.

Please see below what the test looks like. It might be useful to get your child to practise using this test at home to help them to improve their recall and speed.

We will send out a printed version of this test before the end of each half term so they can practise.

Many thanks

The Y4 Team

Nursery ‘Winter Wonderland’

Christmas plans!

Dear parents / carers,

Our Basecamp at the area at the front of school will be turned into a ‘Winter Wonderland’ experience. We have asked the elves to start planning this wonderful event!

We will be inviting Ladybugs, Mighty Oaks and children who do not normally attend the Nursery on a Tuesday to visit the Winter Wonderland experience, each child will be allowed to invite one adult to accompany them – this may be any adult you would like to attend. We know that some parents will be disappointed as only one adult can attend per child, but we have to play it as safely as we can in order to protect children and staff as we approach the Christmas holiday. Please can we ask that you stick to one adult so that we can manage numbers safely.  The experience will last approximately half an hour.  Which will include ‘a Christmas sing a long’. There will be a small gift for every child. We will be offering hot chocolate and a festive treat to all who attend and only ask that you bring your own mug for your and your child (we are doing our bit for the environment!) and make a donation which this year is going towards purchases for the All Nations Community Grocery  communitygrocery.org.uk/telford

On the day of the experience, children will be invited to come to Nursery in their Christmas jumpers / hats – you are more than welcome to get into the spirit too!

The date for the Nursery visit is Tuesday 7th December.  Information regarding time  slots for your child will be sent home this week.

We will be watching the weather forecast closely and we hope that the weather is on our side! Likewise, we will be monitoring the situation with regards to covid and following all recommended guidance. Should we need to make any changes, we will try to let you know as soon as possible.

We hope that you will be able to join us in celebrating Christmas this year.

Kind regards

Miss Cook

Christmas plans!

Dear parents / carers,

We are now on the Christmas countdown, and we wanted to let you know of how we intend to celebrate Christmas this year. It has been a while since we were able to plan anything and even though we are unsure of what the situation with Covid will be by the end of term, we wanted to share with you our plans.

Our Basecamp at the area at the front of school will be turned into a ‘Winter Wonderland’ experience. We have asked the elves to start planning this wonderful event!

We will be inviting one class at a time to visit the Winter Wonderland experience and each child will be allowed to invite one adult to accompany them – this may be any adult you would like to attend. We know that some parents will be disappointed as only one adult can attend per child, but we have to play it as safely as we can in order to protect children and staff as we approach the Christmas holiday. Please can we ask that you stick to one adult so that we can manage numbers safely.  The experience will last approximately one hour, with the exception of our Nursery classes, which will be approximately half an hour.  Activities will include carol singing and an activity which you and your child can share. There will be a small gift for every child in the class. We will be offering hot chocolate and a festive treat to all who attend and only ask that you bring your own mug for your and your child (we are doing our bit for the environment!) and make a donation which this year is going towards purchases for the All Nations Community Grocery  communitygrocery.org.uk/telford

On the day of the experience, children will be invited to come to school in their Christmas jumpers / hats – you are more than welcome to get into the spirit too!

Concerns of parking outside school

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have again been approached by a local resident who has stressed concerns that parking and movement of vehicles near her home is becoming a real issue. The resident reports that numerous cars block her driveway and  use it to turn around, with many vehicles being driven erratically and way too fast.

They go on to say that they understand that it is difficult for parents, as the school site isn’t ideal by way of accessibility, however a lot of the movement of vehicles is unsafe and they worry that a nasty accident could happen.

Please can we remind you to drive carefully, park respectfully and where possible leave vehicles further away from the school and walk in.

Thank you for your support in this.

Arthog visit 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Arthog visit 2022

As you may be aware, in Year 6 your child is invited to attend the Arthog Outdoor Education Centre in Wales for 4 nights. The trip will take place in the summer term: May 16th – 20th which is the week after SATs – we think the perfect time to celebrate their achievement!

Arthog is an outdoor education centre on the Welsh coast, near to Barmouth and Fairbourne. The children gain a great deal from this trip: independence, the opportunity to try new skills, build confidence and develop their teamwork skills whilst enjoying the great outdoors.

Your child has tonight come home with an information leaflet from Arthog which will give you further information and please also look at their website: https://www.telford.gov.uk/aoec/site/index.php

The details for payment are now set up on ParentPay. The subsidised cost of the trip is £250 which includes travel, food, accommodation and of course all of the fabulous activities they do. Parents of children receiving Free School Meals, Income Support or Working Tax Credit may be able to claim support with the costs; please enquire at the school office if you feel you may be eligible for this.

We would like to invite you to an information session about the trip. This will be held at 4:30 on Thursday 25th November in the school hall. Entrance will be at the back of the hall.

Later in the year, we will send out further information about e.g. kit lists and timings, but for now, we simply need confirmation as to whether your child would like to attend.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Clay and Mrs. Thomas
