22.1.21 Update

Dear Parent/Carers,

We are looking forward to having all ‘bubbles’ back in school on Monday, after a period of isolation for both Year 6 and Nursery. We are delighted that the systems in place meant that the virus did not spread further throughout our school or further within the bubbles.

Fingers crossed that we don’t have to close any further ‘bubbles’ moving forward. We know how disruptive this is to children, parents, employers and teachers.

As you know, it is so important that you keep a really careful eye on the health of your family. The Rapid Lateral Flow testing centre at Oakengates is open for all residents of Telford and please remember you don’t have to be showing symptoms in order to book a test https://rapidtest.telford.gov.uk

All staff are currently getting tested once or twice a week in order to give colleagues, parents and themselves some self-assurance. The national staff testing initiative launches on Monday. All staff will test at home, twice a week and be duty bound to send results. This we know will again strengthen our drive to keep the virus at bay.

We are delighted in the uptake of online learning and look forward to reading your comments in our parent survey that closes at noon today https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=2s8TOK9SpUy44yMVeXcKujfWR1zrUJ1JhQgacqv0-RBUQUcwTEc3ODlOMlhIMjEyRVVUTVFaVUwzTS4u

As ever, if you are struggling with devices or connection please ring us and we will do all we can to help. Paper packs are being phased out and only used in an absolute emergency for those who really cannot get online. Online paper packs simply cannot support progress anywhere near as much as the live teacher sessions.

Some staff have reported that a few children in the same year group are accessing the sessions from one house. Under lock down rules there is a ‘childcare support bubble’ element, but please only use this if you really have to. This rule applies for drop off and collection too. We are finding that some parents are allowing other parents to collect their children. In order to keep the virus from spreading, we need to be as strict as we possibly can please.

Figures in Telford are coming down, but unfortunately it is at rather a slow rate. The fact still remains that the Early Years and Primary age group of children still show the lowest number of positive cases across the borough.

As you know it is a team effort and I can assure that ‘Team Newdale’ are all over doing their bit!

Stay safe everyone.

Telford & Wrekin Laptop Recycling Scheme

Do you have an old laptop that you no longer need? 💻
If yes, why not donate it to help support a child’s online learning? 🙋
❗ In the next two weeks, we are asking for donations of laptops in good condition, that we will collect & trade-in to buy new laptops to help children in our borough who don’t have their own computer at home for online learning.
☑️ Our Council has already provided 300+ laptops through the “Laptops for Learning” scheme – but more devices are needed, as during this lockdown, more children in our borough struggle to learn from home.
If you wish to donate, please note the following:
Laptops condition
☑️ The laptop(s) you are donating should be in good condition, with no damage to keys or casing and with a power supply.
☑️ Please delete any personal data (e.g. documents, photos) from the laptop(s) donated.
Pick-up – to avoid non-essential journey, we will pick up your donated devices from your home or business address in our borough.
To arrange the collection, go to http://orlo.uk/ht4vb
👉 Pick a convenient slot (either morning or afternoon) when you would like us to come and collect your device(s)
🛍️ Ensure your donated device(s) is inside a plastic bag ( to protect from weather conditions), with a label stating ‘For collection by TWC’.
🏠 The bag needs to be placed on your doorstep ready for collection (from 8.30am, for AM pickup slot and from 12.30pm, for PM pickup slot)
🤔 Should you have any issues/ concerns around your collection slot or if you want to change/cancel it after your booking, please email laptopcollection@telford.gov.uk
‼️ We are accepting only laptops for donations (and not other devices such as ipads, tablets) as we can only trade-in laptops for brand new devices that will be given to children who need them.
THANK YOU! ❤️

End of day story

I’ve added the link below for the end of day story, remember to use your child’s email and password to log on.  It won’t allow you to access with your own email as there is restricted access.  Hope you enjoy this lovely book and have a fantastic weekend.  See you all soon.

British Values’ Week – WB Monday 25th January 2021

British Values’ Week – WB Monday 25th January 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

Every year, we dedicate a week in February for the children to learn about our British Values, which is in addition to other opportunities they are exposed to throughout the year. The fundamental British Values are defined as:

Democracy

The Rule of Law

Individual Liberty

Mutual Respect

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs.

Promoting these British Values is a central part of our teaching and learning here at Newdale. Further information about these values can be found in the leaflet here: SMSC and Life Learning Guide for Parents 2021

During British Values’ Week, children will be completing a range of work across different subject areas to help shift the knowledge of these values from their short-term memory to their long-term memory. Please continue to support your child/children at home with their learning and encourage discussion around these values. If your child completes any additional work, such as making a traditional British meal, creating a poster etc, please post on their class homework blog.

Many thanks

E-safety Top Tip – choosing an app for your child

There are lots of apps that say they are ‘educational’, but you’ll want to reassure yourself that’s the case and that they are right for your child.  The FEED check may help.

Fun – will your child enjoy the app? Will it keep their attention?

Educational – Is there a clear educational aim? Do you know what your child will learn? Will it keep them learning and allow them to progress?

Engaging – Will it help your child if they get stuck? Will it give them feedback and let them know when they’ve got the challenges right?

Design – Is it attractive and easy to use? Is it inclusive? Can an adult change the settings? Is it safe, with links to the internet and adverts protected behind a parental gate?

If you are ever unsure about an app, do not allow your child to use it until you know it is safe.  There are lots of websites which can give you more information about apps, for example the NSPCC app checker https://www.net-aware.org.uk/

Please remember that Newdale staff are very experienced in supporting E Safety and are only happy to help should you need advice and support

Year 2 Home Learning Friday 22nd January

Hello Year 2!
Well done for having another fantastic week! 😊

There will be two live lessons on Friday, Maths at 9.30am (looking at Magic Squares) and Literacy at 11am (looking at rhyming poems).  You should have received an invite for this session however if not, then you can join the meeting through the Teams app. Please come to each meeting armed with paper and a pen to write.

Following the lesson, the worksheets below should be completed.  You do not need to print this sheet but the children will need to see it so they can work out their answers.

Friday magic squares

Friday poems Blue and Green group

Friday poems Red, Yellow and Orange

If you are unable to attend the live sessions, a recording of the lesson will always be available afterwards.  Worksheets and any further instructions will be shared via the website. We understand that this is tricky for some of you working from home, especially those with siblings so we understand that it is not always possible to join live. We hope the recordings help to support this.

Other home learning activities set for today:

PE – Take a look at the Crossbar PE challenge for this week.

How many keepy-uppys can you do?  Email us to tell us how you get on!

Spellings –You have been practising your spellings all week.  Today ask an adult to help you to do your weekly test and email us your scores.  Good luck!

Times Tables – please see Mrs Horler’s post for today’s activity.

Also keep an eye out for the ‘Star of the Week’ video which will be posted on Friday.

If you have any questions please email us on newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Letters and sounds

I’d love you to join me from 9.30am on Friday 22nd for a short letters and sounds session.  We will be covering the first six sounds that we learn.  After practising the actions you can have a go with pretending to write them in the air.  If your child is confident too they could also write the letter shapes in shaving foam, with a paint brush or a pen and paper.  For the very confident we’d love to see what words they can write that include these sounds.
