Y4 Times Table Club – Letters will be sent home this week

This half term, your child is invited to join our Times Tables Club to maximise and support their learning outside of normal lessons. These sessions are intended to help boost your child’s confidence, memory and ability when recalling their multiplication tables.

The club will take place on a Thursday after school from 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. The first session will take place on Thursday 27th February 2020. If your child attends the club, we ask that they are dedicated towards it and turn up every week unless there is a genuine reason e.g. dentist appointment. Please note that your child will need to be picked up from outside the double doors at the back of the hall at 4.15pm.

 Please note that there will not be a Times Table club session on Thursday 19th March as this is Parents’ Evening week.

Please complete and return the attached consent form by Tuesday 11th February 2020.

Helping your child with their times tables

What can you do to help your child in practising their times tables?

  • Times tables chanting: “6, 12, 18, 24…”;
  • Times tables chanting in reverse order: “108, 99, 90, 81…”;
  • Using times tables songs
  • Using apps, like the one by  Times Tables Rock Stars or Hit the Button
  • Using free online games, like those on Top Marks
  • Asking your child multiplication calculations out of order, like: “What is 4 x 7? What is 9 x 5? What is 6 x 11?”;
  • Using pasta pieces or pebbles to show groups of numbers representing times tables, e.g. four groups of three pasta shells to show 3 x 4 = 12;

Value of the Month- February

Thank you for all your support with the value of the month for January, which was Independence.  We had lots of positive feedback from you about how independent your child/children were at home and it was great to see so many of them carrying their own things into school! The teachers also noticed a big difference in the classroom, as many of the children showed their independent learning side!

Our value of the month for February is Caring

What is caring?

Feeling concern or interest about someone or something.

Our focus on Caring has three strands:

  • Caring for ourselves, our belongings and our pets.
  • Caring for the environment (indoors and outdoors) by the things we do and how we think.
  • Caring about people (in our families, our friends, others who are different or less fortunate) by our actions.

Suggestions for parents to work with children at home:

  1. Explore what care is and what your child thinks it is.
  2. Talk about what makes a caring person.
  3. Discuss how we care for members of our family.
  4. Ask your child what they can do to show they care about school.
  5. Make a family list- “We show we care for…….by ………..”
  6. Make another list- “I find it difficult to care for………….. when…….”and then take time to discuss each item.
  7. Draw pictures showing people caring for others and the environment in different ways.
  8. Talk about the sort of world we would have if nobody cared.
  9. Identify all the different people who care for us and talk about how they show their feelings.
  10. Discuss feelings– How do you feel when you are caring for someone or something? How do you feel when you decide you don’t really care?
  11. Discuss the importance of personal hygiene e.g. brushing teeth twice a day, bathing etc.

Please let your child’s teacher know if we can celebrate any work from home, in school.

Feedback on the values and what you do at home is really valuable to us and we really appreciate all your support.

If you can support us in any way, please get in touch via the school office.

School Sandwiches

As of today children in KS2 (Years 3 to Year 6) who order a school sandwich will be making their own sandwich.

Year 6 have been making their own sandwich for a while and it has proved very successful which is why it was decided to roll out to KS2 (Years 3 to Year 6) children.

We hope the children enjoy preparing and eating their lunch.
