Ongoing Parking Issues

28.3.22

Dear Parents/Carers,

We completely understand that the location of our school is not ideal when considering access and parking for parents when dropping off and picking up. We are in the middle of an ever-growing residential area and are already hard pushed to fit all staff cars on site.

We receive regular complaints from residents about parking and access issues. Recently, a resident from Laurel Lane, Overdale called to relay an unpleasant confrontation involving one of our parents. The resident was returning home from work and unable to park outside her house due to a significant number of cars blocking the way. I believe that residents understand there is a school near by and therefore there will be two key points in the day where it is likely to be busy. What they do not understand is the levels of aggression they are receiving from some of our parents when they ask them to move so they can park on their own spaces/drives.

There are a lot of elderly residents living in the vicinity mentioned and we know that on one occasion the minibus that was trying to drop off residents, simply could not get near the houses. Of course, this is an issue when looking at emergency service access too.

As mentioned, we know that location of the school is not ideal, and we know the solution is not easy. We are keen to remain friends with our neighbours and want to support them as much as we can. We have advised that they call the police if they are continually verbally abused or find continuous illegal parking.

Please can you help us by respecting our neighbours and thinking about where you park. It maybe that parking further away, car sharing or allowing children to cycle could go some way to helping with the solution.

Thank you for your support,

Miss  Cook

Cool Cat Attendance Week

Cool Cat week

Dear Parents/Carers

As many of you will have seen, Cool Cat was on the gate welcoming everyone into school this morning. (He has not been into school for a while, so was mistakenly called Buddy Bear by many!)

Cool Cat comes in to check that all of our children get to school on time and every day.

We hope that your children look forward to seeing him for the rest of this week and that it means they leap out of bed on time, to get ready for school!

Teachers are continuing to work so hard in making sure that all children ‘catch up’ following the last 2 years of covid disruption. Unfortunately for some, Covid is still impacting on attendance.

Teachers plan sequences of learning that run over a number of days/weeks. Even one day missed, puts a child at a disadvantage.

If you struggle with getting your child to school and feel like you need some tips, please speak to Mrs Powell or Mrs Byrne-Corbett who will be happy to help.
