Science and Maths days

As promised here is the evidence of how much fun we’ve had with the messy maths, science and the world around us lessons this week in Mighty Oaks.

The children have been working hard on predicting for maths, guessing how many cups, scoops and syringes it would take to fill different size bottles. While in science we’ve looked at the changes and different outcomes that would happen to a verity of sources. Seeing how one source like water can be changed from a liquid into many forms, for example slime, bubbles, fizzing and a solid.

For our world around us lessons we’ve been looking at worms ready to go into our Wormery. The children used all different ways to catch them from soapy water, digging and turning over stones.

We had some wonderful ideas and thoughts about these three subjects, please see Newdale School Facebook page and your parent shared observations for more videos of this.

Yes it got pretty messy and smelly fast, but never mind it was fantastic fun.😁

Annual Parent/ Carer Survey Autumn 2020

We would appreciate your views to help plan the rest of this year, so we can continue to improve further. Please complete and return the survey via your child’s communication book by Thursday 22nd October. For each question, please tick the score from 1 (not very happy) to 5 (very happy) and add any comments you would like (comments are not essential, but can be most useful). We will then include the survey’s findings in future planning.

All returned surveys will be entered into a prize draw to win one of three £50 ASDA vouchers.

Safety on our site

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are continually trying to ensure we have a safe site for everyone.

We rely on parents to socially distance themselves and need you to ensure this happens please. We also ask that parents limit the number of people coming onto site. We have noticed that more than one adult is often coming to drop off or collect and also that secondary pupils are joining parents in this task. Please limit the number to one person unless absolutely necessary.

Recently we have had to put a yellow box outside of the back classroom doors. This box must not be entered by any parents please.

Staff will ask you to step back if this is the case.

We also ask that parents continue to use the home school communication books, call the office or leave messages with Mrs Powell and Mrs Huda if necessary.

Parents are not allowed into classrooms or into the main school via the main office.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding at this time.

Sensory play

Let’s get investigating! How excited are we!?

Learning through sensory play is the best way. Does it matter how dirty you get? Nope! not at Newdale, because here we know that using our senses to explore is the best way to stimulate a child’s mind.

While you may think ” they’re just getting messy or playing” You couldn’t be more wrong. So in our tuff spots this term we are placing a range of resources to support messy maths and science.Already we have extended this to our outside areas, like the mud kitchen and at snack times.

Asking your child a simple question like ” how many cups do you think it will take to fill that container/ pan ?” Will get them thinking and estimating while they play and Bingo stingo you will have a maths answer. Sounds like to much fun hey! Well it is!

I cannot wait to show you the evidence and outcome of science day tomorrow, lots of investing is going to take place 💥 🧪 I take no responsibility for the gooey mess 🙊 but I will say ” that was fun!” Enjoy the stories, Mrs Giordano

Recycling

The lessons this week are planned around recycling. We’re talking to the children about rubbish and the effects it is having on our planet. We like to call it, `leave no trace’ meaning leave no rubbish behind you and the importance of recycling. We put on our thinking caps and walking boots ready to explore the school area looking for rubbish, remembering what can be recycled along the way. I can happily says Newdaler’s are doing a great job, we hardly saw any 😊 but the little that we did find, we brought back and talked about what goes where. We then buried our fruit leftovers next to some rubbish that will not decompose in the compost to show them how it changes over time.

Get them involved! Letting the children at home to put the rubbish in the correct bins will help them understand more. Then if you wish to do so please share some photos on the evidence me app in parent share. 🌎 ❤️

Improvements in our area – Rock Road

Improvements in your area – Rock Road, Ketley – Replacement of Speed Cushions to improve the traffic safety of your road

We will shortly be working in your area as part of the Council’s ‘Pride in Our Community’ investment programme. Between 2018 and 2022 we are investing over £50m in creating a better borough with improvements to roads, footpaths, streetlights, road signs, highways structures and green spaces.

In 2020/21 it is the Council’s aim to further improve our road network and highway assets. Some £12m will be invested during the next year, delivering 222 improvement schemes across the borough.  These improvements will be achieved in partnership with the Council’s new highways contractor Balfour Beatty.

As part of the Council’s ongoing investment into its roads and footpaths, we will shortly be carrying out the replacement of the speed cushions to improve the condition of the traffic safety issues on Rock Road.

When are we planning to deliver this work?

The work is due to take place on 19/10/2020 and be completed by 30/10/2020, weather permitting.

We will be working in two phases, phase 1 (week one) removal of existing speed cushions and reinstatement of the carriageway 09:00-14:30hrs under a Road Closure, Phase 2 (week two) will be installation of rubber speed cushions and lining 0800-1700hrs under a Road Closure.  Diversions will be set out in advance of the works and our dedicated teams will be on site to assist you during this time to help you get past the working areas safely should you need to do so.  Whilst we will endeavour to minimise disruption we ask that you keep vehicle movements to an absolute minimum and not to park on the road. Please also ensure that children are supervised, do not play near the working areas and all pets are kept away from the works.

Information about access to your property

Access will be maintained where we can during the works for residents and for emergency vehicles We will try to cause as little inconvenience as possible and really appreciate your co-operation whilst we are undertaking the works.

If you have any special access requirements while the works are in progress or need to contact Balfour Beatty about these improvements please contact us at our new Telford Highways Hub: TelfordHighwaysHub@Balfourbeatty.com and a member of our team will be in contact with you shortly.

Thank you for your co-operation whilst we deliver these improvements in your area.

Houses and homes project

We have been putting our final touches to our groups model houses today. Listening to their ideas and thoughts was fascinating. They really did put a lot of input into their designs. The Children were able to discuss different homes and houses that they have seen and visited. We’ve had such a fun time doing them and would love to see you taking part in this at home by making your very own model house. This can be from any source of materials you have spare. Then please share your designs by sending them into evidence me, parent share. 🏠

Covid 19 update

Dear Parents/Carers,

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-parents-and-guardians-when-you-should-book-a-coronavirus-test-for-your-child/letter-to-parents-and-guardians-when-you-should-book-a-coronavirus-test-for-your-child

We have sent this document out before, but wanted to make sure it reached everyone. We are trying so hard to prevent any positive cases in our school, but we need your help…

Please follow all of the guidelines and in particular –

  • Making sure you are not sending your child/children into school if they are unwell.
  • Making sure they wash their hands before coming in to school and on arrival home.
  • Ensuring your children and you yourselves are socially distancing at the key times of drop off and pick up.

Clearly we can not control what goes on out of school, but ask that everyone does ‘their bit’ in trying to keep the virus out of our community and therefore lowering the risk of it getting into our school.

Thank you for your continued support.

Autumn fun!

We’ve had a wonderful time in the woods today. We looked for signs of Autumn. We found prickly sweet chestnuts and acorns too. The children looked for places to hide the acorns and looked for squirrels in the trees too. Can you go on an Autumn walk with your child and send in photos on parent share? You could find out if all of the leaves are the same shape, can you see if the leaves are all the same colour, are there any autumn seeds or fruit such as apples, berries or conkers. Please let us know what you find.
