Stranger Danger

Dear Parents and Carers,

In school this week we will be once again reminding all children of the importance of keeping safe. We do such a lot of work in this area, especially when keeping children safe online, but we must also remember the need for our children to be careful when outside. We know that lots of your children go out to play or meet friends but can they remember what to do if a stranger approached them? Online, they can report it, close the game and seek advice which eliminates the threat immediately, but this is not the same in the real world. A local school recently had the need to remind children of the following rules.

STRANGER DANGER PREVENTION ADVICE

Here are some simple steps you can take to make sure you stay safe on the street.

  • Make sure you tell your parents where you are at all times.
  • Always play where your parents can see you.
  • Do not answer the front door at home unless your mum or dad are there with you.
  • If you have permission to walk home alone, go straight home.
  • Be alert to your surroundings.
  • Do not make friends online with people you have never met and who you are not friends with in real life (IRL) – they are strangers too.
  • If someone scares you, or makes you feel uncomfortable, go somewhere safe, which could be your home, your school or a police station.
  • Never tell a stranger your name or address.
  • Never approach a stranger sitting in a car.
  • Never go off on your own with a stranger, take things from them or get in a car with them.
  • Don’t believe what strangers tell you – sometimes they could say things to make you go with them.
  • If someone did try to grab you it is ok to break all the rules of politeness to others e.g. shout loudly, scream, kick, punch, bite etc to draw attention and alert others to the fact that you are in danger.
  • Please also remember that sometimes a stranger can be the only person who can help us and is a far safer option than not talking to anyone; if you feel uncomfortable in any situation go to the nearest public building, for example a shop, or a public place. Whilst
    it is important we remain vigilant it is equally important to remember that not ALL strangers are “bad”.

 

Obviously, this needs to be appropriate to the age of the child that you have. We will be doing more work on this through the week in school. The idea is not to scare the children but make sure they know what to do in this event. It’s a difficult one, as not all strangers have bad intentions; however, we must prepare our children.

Grandparents tea party

The tickets to the tea party are now live.
If you wish to come see your grandchildren at nursery you will need to purchase a ticket through their parents pay accounts. The tickets are £2 each

Grandparents Tea Party

 

Wednesday 18th October 2023

We will once again be holding our annual grandparent’s tea party on Wednesday 18th October 2023. This year, we kindly request a donation of £2 per grandparent. The closing date to book this event is Friday 13th October at midday. You will receive tickets once you have booked on ParentPay from Monday 16th.

We respectfully ask that only Grandparents attend this event. Prior to the event, we ask that parents log into ParentPay to make payment for the event and to confirm numbers of Grandparents attending – this will ensure we have enough cake and biscuits! Please also confirm whether your child will leave school with their grandparent. For safeguarding reasons, they will not be able to do so unless this has been confirmed via ParentPay.

On the day, could all Grandparents arrive at school for 2.00pm at the main entrance where you will then be escorted to your Grandchild’s class (if you have more than one, we will try to gather them all together!).

You will spend around 30 minutes in the classroom where we hope you will enjoy some time sharing harvest craft activities with the children.

At 2.30pm you will be invited to come to one of our refreshment areas with your Grandchildren for tea and cake / biscuits. We know it is tempting to sneak extra treats for your Grandchildren, but please do not, as we will only have catered for Grandparents. Children will get a drink and a biscuit!

Just before home time, all Grandparents and children will return to the class of the youngest sibling and can leave school via the classroom doors (with children if this has been arranged); from there, Grandparents may collect from other classrooms in the usual way.

Donations: we are passionate about offering real-life experiences for all of our children and your payment (which can be more than £2 if you wish) will support us not only in providing you with cake (!) but also subsidising our trips and visits offer for everyone.

Exploring Zog 🐲

This week in Mighty Oaks 🌳the children having been looking at 🐲 Zog the book.
We’ve explored the woods for a Zog rainbow walk, where there the children looked for objects relating to the colours on their chart. 🌈
In cooking we made Gluten and dairy free Zog shaped biscuits yummy ! 🧑🏾‍🍳

In our Read, write, ink lessons 📚we broke down the book into sections, beginning, middle and end. Throughout we focused on the phrases and sentences
‘ Bravo ‘ and …
‘ Now that you’ve been shown, you can do it in your own’
Using these through the day in their daily routine reminded them of the book.

Getting our creative drama skills 🎭ready we put the children’s memory of the book to the test by dressing up as a character from the book and role played the scenes.
Creating our very own dragon school.

Maths lesson 🧮 focus was matching quantities to numerals with objects around the room to Autumn related numbers.

Let’s get physical 🏃🏽‍♂️
Indoor PE we played lots of different parachute games relating to our Theme topic of ‘ what goes up, must come down ‘
Outdoor PE Mr Birch asked the children to practice their underarm throwing by aiming a bean bag to land inside a hola hoop. ⭕️
Children then had a wonderful time in Sensory play by catching bubbles.

Exploring the world 🍂🍁 around them our tuff tray was set up as a scene from the Zog book with natural resources from outside and handmade props. This allowed the children to touch, smell and bring their own ideas to the tray in their child initiated time.

NOTIFICATION

We are obliged to periodically inform all parents that we have CCTV cameras positioned around our site. These cameras are for surveillance purposes and to support our security measures.

 As you may have seen, we also have signs located at strategic points around our School and Nursery. These signs act as a public notice and hopefully a deterrent against prospective unwarranted intrusion, damage, graffiti, vandalism or theft.

If you spot something suspicious around our site, we would appreciate you reporting this immediately to our office or through our email newdale.primary@taw.org.uk

Uno, dos, tres, let’s go !

Uno, dos, tres… let’s go !
We started the week off with our European language day, which was of course Espana ! 🇪🇸 and we loved it. The children took part in array of activities from Dancing, speaking, cooking, colouring and the piñata. 🪅

We have to give a massive thank you to Mattias Mom who worked so hard to make our Hot air balloon piñata. It was absolutely amazing ! the talent and skill in such craft 👏🏻⭐️ the children really enjoyed your visit and games with you ❤️ so again thank you.

Also a big thank you to Mr Pablos for making us our yummy Spanish treats, the children tucked right in to trying and tasting new foods. 🇪🇸

Then the rest of the week we looked at our book
‘ Aliens love underpants ‘ 👽🩲
Digesting the book into parts we extended their learning, they made a rocket in their team groups ready for the launch competition on Friday, role played Aliens stealing nursery’s underpants from our washing lines. Guessing which character has gone missing, pairing and matching underpants, and washing underpants, (all clean ones though) and seeing how long it took them to dry in the breeze. Thankfully the weather was on our side.

PE outdoors Mr Birch got them to take part in a team game of minion’s and bananas 🍌 where the minions had to tag a child with a bib, once that child was tagged they had to stand still arms up and wait until a friend could free them by peeling their arms down.
Indoor PE we used a lot of balance beams in different ways to get the children moving around using their bodies in different ways.

Feelings Friday we talked about toilet training and using the toilets in the correct way with a sequence game.

Competition winners were…… 🥁Green group and Blue group 🚀🎉👏🏻 bravo ! Such a cool rocket.
