Learning update

Dear parents and carers,

Our staff are working hard to make sure that all of our children have the best possible transition back into their learning. There has been widespread media coverage about children being ’behind’ and needing to ‘catch up’. We want to reassure you that we are working hard to help our children ‘recover’ and ‘embed learning’; we want lessons to help all children to celebrate what they know and help them in making progress by knowing and remembering more.

Teachers and teaching assistants are planning lessons which will help children to access key learning which is essential for this. All staff are using specific learning prompts and language to help children to understand what they are learning and we need your help too!

We love hearing children talking about their day when they are on their way home and many are keen to tell you about their day. To help them recall their learning, instead of saying ‘What have you done today?’, ask your child to tell you two things that they have learnt today. To start with, it is likely that they will tell you something like ‘We did division today’. Encourage your child to tell you something that they learnt about division – this may take a while to get into the swing of it but it really is worth it!

Your child may also be asked to complete homework which relates to work that they have completed a week or so ago. The point of this is for staff to assess what they have remembered and if there is a need for them to go over this further. Again, children may say that they don’t know what to do but they will, they may just need a little encouragement.

Over the course of this year, our teams will be using a variety of methods to help children to ‘know more and remember more’. The knowledge organisers that your child’s teacher has been sharing with you are one way that we are helping children to recover. There are many more ways in which teachers will be looking at how much your child can remember about their learning.

We know how amazing and resilient our children are and we are confident that by working together with families, we will help children to reach their full potential whatever is thrown at us!

Kind regards

Mrs Bishton

Reception Reading at home

Hi all. This week we would like the children to carry on reading books from Oxford Owl and ask please could you return any school reading books that you have at home. We will then be quarantining them ready to send some home next Monday(15th March). On Friday (12th March) we will be collecting in reading diaries in preparation for the children’s spelling test next Monday. Today we have sent a paper copy of your child’s new spellings home. If you have not received them, then please let your child’s teacher know and they can issue a new copy.

Many thanks for your continued support. The Reception Team

Welcome Back

Reception we want to say a big Well Done to you all for today. It was so lovely to see all your lovely faces for real (and not on a computer screen). You have had so much playing alongside your friends and we hope your parents enjoyed the pictures we sent them on Evidence Me. Well done for coming into class so well and we cant wait to see you again tomorrow. From all in Reception

Welcome back Reception

Reception had such a lovely first day back. They loved having some time to catch up with friends and play together. We were especially lucky to have forest schools for our first day back too! We enjoyed time in the forest area exploring in the fresh air, burning off energy running around the field and even each planted our own sunflower!  🌻 Watch this space and we will update you as they start to grow 🌱

Please see below for a selection of pictures from our day. Sorry if we didn’t manage to capture every single child, but hopefully you received our little update on the Evidence Me app today to let you know they were all ok ☺️

Issues with the school SENDCO email

There seems to be an ongoing issue with the school’s SENDCO email.  If you wish to discuss any SEN matters and are having issues sending your emails, please call school to request a call back from Miss Plimmer or Mrs Powell.  Alternatively, you can use the  newdale.primary@taw.org.uk email address and we will be happy to forward your message on for you.
