The Harvest GATEway Project

3.10.22

Dear Parents and Carers,

This year for Harvest, we are collecting as usual, but in the spirit of supporting our immediate community, we have decided that we want this to be even closer to home and support our own school community in these times of ever-increasing cost of living for everyone.

We will be collecting non-perishable donations (tins of food, toilet rolls, toiletries etc.) for a ‘give and take’ bank – hence the name GATEway (Give And TakE)!

With the contributions that are generously shared by parents, staff and governors, we will be setting up a regularly replenished box of non-perishable items – into which you can add items (box 1) if you can; or take items (box 2) should you need. These boxes will be outside the main office in the parent shelter.

If you can give something, please add it to the box. The box will be based on trust and not manned, and we are very much hoping that it may support those in need as we move into the winter months and while the cost of living is ever more.

Our project will launch during Harvest and we will notify you when the ‘Give and Take’ boxes are in place.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Reception Star of the Week 💫

Our star today is Dola! She has worked hard in every lesson, every single day all week. She always follows our BSMART code. We love to see how enthusiastic you are to learn Dola. What a role model.

The Little Red Hen

This week we have been reading ‘ The Little Red Hen’. We have discussed how unkind some of the animals were and we all said we would help the hen if she asked us. Yesterday afternoon we pretended to be the red hen and made some bread. We followed the recipe to make bread rolls and each had a turn mixing the flour, oil and water. We then kneaded it together and baked it in the oven. Today we got to taste the bread and it was yummy.

Safeguarding information for parents

At Newdale, we deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities to ensure children are ready for life in modern Britain. Educating children on their safety is paramount and is embedded throughout our curriculum offer as well as in our day-to-day routines e.g. our Be-SMART code.  As part of the government’s initiative for raising awareness of safeguarding of children with parents and carers,  they have produced the following guide for parents and carers:

If you require any support or have any concerns about this safeguarding issue, please speak to a member of our pastoral team.

Reception Star of the Week 💫

Well done to Ollie for being our star this week. He has worked really hard both at school and at home! He has followed the BSMART code and has been a wonderful role model to everyone. 😊

Reception Star of the Week

Congratulations to Coby who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ ‘Star of the Week’ this week for always giving 100% effort in everything he does, being a fantastic role model to others and always having a big smile on his face. Well done Coby! You have been a super helper today too! Enjoy your weekend with Star Bear.

Polite reminder when parking on school site

A polite reminder that the side entrance to the staff parking area and the staff parking area itself, should only be used by Newdale members of staff. If for any reason you are driving onto the school site, please slowly enter and exit through the main school gate and use our visitor parking area only.

Many thanks

Safer, Stronger Communities feedback

21.9.22

Dear Parents & Carers,

Early last term we sent out a survey asking for your ideas on how we could support improving our local community spaces. Thank you to all of those parents who spent the time filling in a response. We really do value your views. The surveys were sent to the Stronger Communities team, and they wanted me to update you on the action that has been taken so far linked to the Overdale area.

  • The new camera is now up and overlooks the MUGA and playground at the field.
  • The new camera that will cover the path and area of the Rock Road play park should be up in the next four weeks.
  • The Carpenter Centre is now open and ready for people of the area to hire it when it is available.
  • A resident drop-in session has been scheduled in for October 11th from 5.30pm – 7pm. This session is for residents to speak with ward councillors and also parish council staff as well as members of the Stronger Communities team about issues in the area and activities they would like to see developed.
  • The Stronger Communities team is working on a project with councillors to improve accessibility and mobility for residents (more information to follow).
  • The first Overdale & Ketley Neighbourhood Crime Reduction meeting has very recently been held. This was a Teams meeting with police, ward members, parish councillors, Anti-social behaviour and Enforcement Teams in attendance. Other meetings have been scheduled for the future and we hope that representatives from school will also attend.

We do hope you can see that your survey responses did indeed initiate actions happening in our local community. We continue to work closely with the Stronger Communities teams and are more than happy to pass on any further suggestions you have in making our local community an even better place to live and let our children play.

Kind regards

Reception Stars ✨

We would like to congratulate all of our wonderful new Reception children for completing their first full day week at Newdale.

They have already learnt so much about the routines of big school. They have been working hard in phonics, Number work as well as practising how to share and take turns and painting. We’ve been on our jungle gym and used the bikes. We look forward to sharing photographs with you soon (we are just waiting to ensure we have everyone’s correct photo consent).

Well done everyone. We couldn’t possibly pick just one star of the week this week, so we have awarded everybody with their own special certificate! 🤩
Have a lovely weekend. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
