Reception Baseline Assessments

We are really pleased with how well everyone has settled in at school! Everyone is working so hard already.

At the beginning of Reception, as we get to know your child, we will be carrying out an assessment with them, to ensure we recognise their strengths and areas we can help them develop over the year. These assessments are informal and carried out 1:1 with us. We look at a range of activities, including Speaking and Listening, Literacy and Maths skills using lovely resources such as toy bears, pictures, cards and shapes.

We wanted to ensure you are aware of these assessments that are expected to be carried out in the first six weeks of term (which happen in every school) and may also like to read the information booklet attached from the Standards and Testing agency.

Star of the week 💫

A huge well done to all children in Reception for a wonderful first full week in school. You are all settling in so well. A certificate has been awarded to each of you because we are so proud. 🌟

Each week we pick a star of the week for something special. This weeks star in our class is Harry. He has been our star for working so hard, following our smart code and doing his best as we learn how everything works in big school. We are really proud.

New house names

Now we are all back to school, we have decided to have a look at the house system that we have in place. Mrs Clarke and Mrs Everall do a fantastic job of assigning the children into each of the houses and making sure that all the house points that are awarded are counted up.

We are delighted to share with you that we have decided to help our children to know more about where we live and so, our houses have new names. The colours will remain the same but the new names are –

Severn (This was the Phoenix and will remain red)

Ironbridge (This was Dragon and will remain green)

Wenlock (This was Griffin and will remain yellow)

Wrekin (This was Unicorn and will remain blue)

We know it will take a little while to get used to the names, but we are hoping that by sports day, we will all have had enough practice to cheer on the correct team names!

Entrance to school off Rock Road

A reminder for parents/carers, the entrance to school off the Rock Road through our electronic gates is for STAFF only and is not to be used as a route into school to drop children off. There is also no pedestrian access allowed through this gate. Thank you for your co-operation.

Bike to School Week 2021 27th September and 1st October

Bike to school week is taking place between 27th September and the 1st October 2021.

It’s a great opportunity to celebrate cycling and scooting and the positive impact it has on children’s health and wellbeing as well as the environment.

We are very lucky to have bike sheds here at school and would like to encourage as many families as we can to bike or scoot to school that week. It is hoped that by biking to school, pupils will think about their journeys to school, understand the benefits of active travel, and consider the causes and effects of air pollution.

Happy cycling!

Consultation on the teaching of consent

At Newdale, we are committed to making sure that we teach our children how to stay safe. We want our children to be able to be confident in their understanding of what consent is, in a variety of situations. We have created a set of lessons which we would like your feedback on. Please have a look at the lessons on  https://www.newdaleschool.org.uk/home/curriculum/subjects/sex-education/

and leave feedback using the link on the page.

Harvest Festival

Harvest time is nearly upon us and as we have done in previous years, this year we will be collecting food items for Telford Crisis Support. The charity will be coming into school to see us in assembly on Monday 27th September to explain the work that they do. Following this, we would appreciate it if you were able to spare and send into school any food items (tinned or packaged and in date please) that you do not require. Please can children take the items to their classrooms and teachers will gather them together. The charity will collect the donations the following week on Monday 4th October. Thank you in advance for you help.

Photos for our sports board…

Following on from the Olympics this year, if your child takes part in a sport outside of school, we would love to have some photos showing what they do to go on our sports board.

Please send photos to Mrs Goodwin with your child’s name and year group on the back. Photo’s can also be sent in via email, please use the school email address which is newdale.primary@taw.org.uk

Well done Reception!

A huge well done to all children in Reception for completing their first week in school. We are so proud of how well you have come in each day, settled down, followed the new routines and played so well together with your new friends. Thank you also to parents and carers, who have been very supportive with the system of dropping your child at the door. This has worked really well! Please do bear with us next week when we have all 30 children to pair up to the right person at hometime. It may take us a little longer to begin with, but we need to make sure every one goes home safely.

We will begin to send home photos soon either on the website or via the EvidenceMe app. We are just waiting for some final consent slips to ensure we only send out photos of those who have permission.

Please could we thank those who have already sent in their beautifully decorated Learning Journey covers and EvidenceMe consent slips. If you have not done this yet, please could we ask for those as soon as possible so we can stick the covers to your child’s brand new book.

Have a wonderful, well deserved break over the weekend and we look forward to seeing all of you on Monday morning.

The Reception Team :)
