Life in Modern Britain Survey Feedback

After analysing the parent surveys about how Newdale prepares children for life in modern Britain, one of the main trends was that parents wanted more information on how and when these topics are taught in school. Please find below an information guide to support parents with their understanding of how and when these topics are taught during your child’s time at Newdale as well as discussions you can have at home with your child.

How we prepare children for life in modern Britain

After you have read the guide, we would appreciate it if you could complete a short survey on how useful you have found this information- it should only take a couple of minutes.

Year 1’s Nature Walk 🌿🌱🌳🌲

Year 1 really enjoyed their Nature Walk yesterday afternoon – and the rain certainly didn’t stop us from having fun and exploring the local nature. We spotted lots of different types of trees and discussed whether we thought they were ‘evergreen’ or ‘deciduous’ – using the main characteristics of their leaves.

Can you remember what ‘evergreen’ and ‘deciduous’ mean?

NumBots

Newdale have invested in a new Number Facts initiative called NumBots for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. NumBots adopts the best teaching practises to take children from counting on their fingers, to adding and subtracting two digit numbers. NumBots equips each pupil with the set of core maths skills they require by building their knowledge from the ground up – starting at the very beginning with subitising(recognising the amount without having to count it out) . NumBots’ gets progressively harder to ensure that children are exposed to new learning as well as recapping previous objectives. The Story Mode is designed to develop pupils’ understanding of the relationship between different numbers and concepts.

The programme compliments what your child is learning in school and focusses on securing any gaps in their knowledge, before moving them onto the next challenge. This self-paced journey improves children’s confidence and means they are fully prepared to tackle each new topic. NumBots recommends playing for at least 3 minutes a day, 4 or 5 days a week. NumBots is available to play via our website or mobile app, so your child will be able to learn maths at home or on-the-go, whenever suits your family.

If you would like anymore information on how to use NumBots please watch this short video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjCou2P3aQ4

Your child’s username and password will be stuck in their reading diary.  If your child is in Year 2, your child is able to use their Times Table Rockstar’s log in to access NumBots.

Yours sincerely,

Careers Week

Dear Parents and Carers,

At Newdale, dreams and aspirations are harnessed and nurtured. This is the vision for all of our pupils. We teach all children to become self-confident and to take control of their own lives and create their own futures.

To support our pupils to have dreams and aspirations, we plan a careers programme to help inspire them to work towards the jobs of their dreams.

Our school is a place where everyone gets excited about their next steps and futures. We would like to invite you to share your occupations with our children.

Our careers programme has successfully run in school previously and we are looking for willing volunteers to lead activities with pupils or participate in talks, either in person or via teams.

Careers week will take place week commencing 5th July.

We are looking for people who want to share their experience of their own job – The more varied the occupations the greater the learning experience we can provide.

If you are interested, please email the office and we will get back in contact with you.

Many thanks

Miss Broadhurst

Dear Parents/Carers,

A  job opportunity has come up working at our school. We are looking for a lunchtime supervisor to work specifically with our nursery children. The successful candidate would need to be available each day from 1130 – 1230.

If would like more details then please do contact our office on 01952 387720.

Collection of children at the end of the day

As part of our commitment to safeguarding children, it is vitally important that you let the school office know if someone other than the person who usually collects your child will be collecting them after school.

Our staff are directed to carry out checks if they do not know who the person who is collecting. Your child will be kept safe in school whilst we try to contact you to find out if you give permission for them to be released to this person. As you can imagine, this may take some time in order that we get your permission for your child to be released

To ensure that this is avoided, you need to let school know if there is a change. The best way of contacting school to tell us about this through either a note in the home / school communication book if you know in advance or a call into school on 01952 387720.

Thank you in advance for your continuing support.
