Y4 Egyptian Day

We have all had a fantastic day today learning about the Ancient Egyptians.

We learnt about…

Where the Ancient Egyptians sit on a timeline

Egyptian games

Mummification

Hieroglyphs

We also travelled virtually to Egypt using VR headsets and explored the pyramids of Giza as well as other remains.

Please ask your child what they learnt and most enjoyed about today.

8.9.21 Drop off/pick up changes

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are constantly reviewing our systems and have decided to alter the drop off and pick up arrangements slightly to hopefully improve things for everyone.

The queues of people outside of the main front gate, along the road are a concern for us and therefore we are going to allow people on site through the top gate and main gate more freely. The internal gates however will not open until the classrooms are about to open. This new system would at least allow people to wait for a short time on site, rather than on the busy road.  Nursery opens at 8.30am and school at 8.40am, so please do not arrive on site much earlier than this as it would then result in you waiting with other people.

It would help us if you encouraged/allowed older children to be independent and walk to class on their own please.

We ask you to be really careful around the school car parks at these busy times. We do have a number of blue badge holders who have permission to come onto site. Where possible, we have asked that they limit movement at key busy times from now on to help us keep everyone safe.

This new system will begin at pick up time today and as ever we will review and alter again if we deem it necessary.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

Miss Cook

Headteacher

Y4 Important Information

The adults in Year 4 have really enjoyed meeting our classes today.

Thank you for your patience at the end of the day. As expected, it will take a little bit of time for staff to become familiar with parents/adults collecting children from our classes. To avoid congestion outside the decking area/bottom of the steps, if you are happy for your child to walk and meet you at the gate, please write a message in your child’s reading diary or email us on: newdale.year4team@taw.org.uk.

Exciting News:

We are very excited to announce that your child will be taking part in an Egyptian Day this Thursday in school. They don’t need to bring anything in apart from what they would usually do for a school day and children are expected to wear their school uniform.  We will post pictures to share what they have learnt later on in the week.

Many thanks

Y4 Homework Information

Homework in Year 4

Reading

During the first few days back, your child will choose a new colour banded book to read at home. Your child will be listened to read by an adult in school to assess their current reading level. As well as this, children will still have access to Bug Club, Oxford Owl and Fiction Express, which provides e-books they can read at home. Login details can be found in your child’s reading diary. We encourage both children and adults at home to record in diaries at least 3 times a week.

Times Tables

In Year 4, children are required to regularly practise their times tables. Each child will be given a times table book which they can use at home as well as their login for Times Table Rockstars, which is a fantastic online resource to increase confidence, engagement, speed and progress with your child’s times table knowledge. Children will be tested on their times tables every Wednesday.

In the summer term, all Year 4 children will be tested on their multiplication knowledge using an online check produced by the DFE. More information will be sent out about this nearer the time. It is not a test for children to worry about. The check is intended to assess where each child is at with their times tables in preparation for Year 5. As a school, we prepare children for this check as well as ensuring that they are equipped with the times table knowledge to support them within their maths lessons.

Spellings

Your child will receive a new set of spellings each week. To support the teaching and learning of these spellings in class, please encourage your child to practise these each day. You will find the spelling sheet in your child’s reading diary. Your child will be tested on their spellings every Friday.

We will share these expectations with the children on their first day back.

Many thanks
