NSPCC Number Day – Friday 2nd February

NSPCC Number Day 2024 Information

Don’t forget, Newdale are taking part in this year’s NSPCC Number Day!  All of our pupils, from Nursery up to Year 6, will enjoy a variety of Maths activities, maths stories and competitions on Friday. Years 2 – 6 will be involved in a Times Tables Rockstars Battle too.

To raise money for the NSPCC and support all of the important work that they do, we are inviting all children  to dress down in number-themed outfits on Friday. The donation for this can be made on ParentPay. Thank you in advance for your support.

Safeguarding, Heath & Safety Governors Committee

The Safeguarding, Health & Safety governors met last Thursday and really enjoyed listening to the views of girls from reception, Year 2, 4 and 6. Governors asked many questions about lunchtime and break time activities. Children responded confidently about what there is to do both indoors and outdoors. They knew what to do should a ‘dangerous situation’ arise and what to do should they come across damaged resources. Year 6 are going to report back to Miss Cook about ideas for interactive games that they could use in their outdoor area. Governors reviewed the food standards documentation and look forward to pupil voice and menu analysis as part of the next committee meeting.

Governors feedback linked to the Curriculum meeting

Governors were delighted to talk to enthusiastic Geographers from Reception to Year 6. Children were very knowledgeable about topics such as volcanoes, earthquakes, Mount Everest, capital cities and details around maps.

Governors could see clearly that the children in our nursery provision have a high-quality offer with exciting resources and stimulating environments.

Governors want to celebrate the swimming offer with you – please see below the report created by Miss Jones our PE lead.

Swimming Update January 2024

Governors had an in depth look at the After School Club provision and were impressed with the overall offer including the carefully thought-out snack menu, planned trips and exciting activities for the children. Governors agreed to release more funding to further resource our After School Club.

Year 5 – Harry Potter Trip

Dear Parents/Carers,

The Year 5 trip to Harry Potter studios is fast approaching – please see the key details below about timings. Further reminders will be sent closer to the date.

Tuesday 6th February 2024.

-Children to arrive from 6.45am. The bus will be parked at the bus stop on Rock Road, when adults are present, the children will be able to board the bus.

-Adults will be present at school to direct you there if needed.

-We will be leaving at 7am sharp, so please ensure your child is on time as the earlier we arrive, the more time the children have to explore the studios.

-We will not be able to stop on our journey, so please ensure your child has had their breakfast and been to the toilet.

-The children will be given a snack on arrival and we hope to have at least 4 hours at the studios and we will update you with pictures from the trip via social media.

-Children will need to bring a packed lunch on the day. We will be leaving the studios by 2.30pm and hope to be back in Telford between 5 – 5.30pm depending on traffic. Miss Cook will send updates regarding our arrival.

-All children should wear school uniform with comfortable trainers.

-Children are not to take spending money as time constraints and costs of items in the shop mean that this will not be possible.

Please note if your child suffers from travel sickness, please ensure they have taken medication for this prior to the trip.

Thank you for your continued support. If there are any further questions, please email newdale.year5team@taw.org.uk

The Year 5 team.

Important message for Mr Jackson’s class

8.1.23

Absence

Dear Parents/Carers of children in Mr Jackson’s class,

I do hope you have had a lovely Christmas.

Unfortunately, I must inform you that Mr Jackson will not be in school for a while due to him needing to undergo necessary surgery.

Mr Jackson will this week be conducting his parents’ evenings from home by telephone as he will continue to shield before his operation date.

This afternoon, you will find the instructions as to how to book in a time slot in your child’s reading diary. Mr Jackson will be making these calls on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and has a good degree of flexibility as he is carrying them out from his home. Mr Jackson will be available all week via email (newdale.year5team@taw.org.uk) for any other questions or concerns.

We have been working very hard to ensure the best possible cover for Mr Jackson’s class whilst he is not in school. We have never been a fan of the unknown nature of supply teachers and where possible always try to cover absence with known school staff.

Mr McFarland has agreed to carry out all the planning for both Year 5 classes. This will ensure the quality of our offer remains very high.

A combination of Mrs Poole, Miss Clay and Mrs Mahon will cover the delivery of the curriculum, with Mrs Hickinbottom being in class full time as normal.

We are not sure on when Mr Jackson will return, but know that he has put in an enormous amount of time over Christmas in making sure everything will run very smoothly in his absence.

I know you will all join me in wishing Mr Jackson a speedy recovery.

If you have any queries, I know that Mr Jackson will be more than happy to answer them when you talk to him during your parents evening appointment.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Headteacher
