End of term message

Dear Parent/Carers,

The sunshine of the past two days has certainly lifted everyone’s spirits. Let’s hope that we get more of this over the Easter break.

It has been lovely for everyone to see the children settle so quickly back into a routine and to enjoy their learning and of course see their friends. We really do hope this positivity continues when children return on Monday 19th April.

The Telford and Wrekin Covid figures thankfully still remain low and are continuing to fall. Clearly the news in Europe is worrying and we watch and listen to developments and still plan to remain cautious when we return.

The one way system will remain in place as will the expectation that parents wear face coverings on our site at all times please. All of our in-school procedures will remain the same; however, we do hope that guidance will allow some easing of this over time. It is really important that you follow the school procedures. When we are able to ease them, we will let you know as soon as possible.

It is important that you let us know if your child/children have a positive Covid test during the first 3 days after we have finished school. Therefore any test result that comes in up to the end of Sunday, is relevant to us and track and trace. You would need to email school on newdale.primary@taw.org.uk or text school on 07765147868 to let us know and immediately let the Health Protection Hub know using this link https://www.telford.gov.uk/info/20692/coronavirus_covid-19/4040/i_want_to_report_suspected_or_confirmed_cases . Fingers crossed we do not have to inform families and staff to self-isolate over the Easter holidays.

Teachers may well have set some activities / homework to do over the break. What we know is that one of the most valuable activities you can do is to listen to you child read or encourage them to read to themselves as often as possible. This reading time develops the love of reading, supports children’s ideas for writing, secures spelling and of course helps children learn new words.

Can we remind you that we do not allow ‘exteme’ hair cuts and ask you to please consider carefully the style your child has. In our policy we state that extreme shaving and patterns should not be cut into hair please and neither should applying hair dye. This includes closely shaved lines into hair.

We hope to be able to offer more events and activities as we move through the summer term and will of course keep you fully informed.

As always, we really do appreciate the support we get from our families. Have a great Easter.

Easter Egg Raffle Winner

Well done to Sophie in year 6 for winning the massive Easter egg in the Easter raffle. All prizes have been given out this afternoon. Thank you to everyone that purchased a ticket, we raised £255. All proceeds will go towards an extension on the playground.

Thank you to Magna for donating the massive chocolate Easter egg.

Arthog refunds

We have started to process the refunds for the Year 6 Arthog trip.  All money paid through Parentpay, has now been refunded back to your Parentpay account.  Some parents chose to transfer money paid for the London trip, over to the Arthog trip.  As this money was paid direct to school by cash or cheque, we are unable to process this refund through Parentpay.  Instead we will have to issue a cheque.  We are currently waiting for a new cheque book to arrive, so these will be done after the Easter break.  Apologies for the delay and thank you for your patience.

Update 19.03.2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

We spend a lot of time looking at what is going on locally and it was really heartening to see that the Covid case figures for Telford and Wrekin are the lowest in the West Midlands. The data fall recorded for over the last month has been significant and we really do hope this fall will mean that the probability of more cases in our school is massively reduced.

Recently we invited the Health Protection Hub into school to see if they could spot any further actions we could take to reduce risk. They believe we are doing all we can do, when considering the number of children we have and the space we have to put them. Nonetheless, we are constantly reviewing what we do and tweaking the way we do things to reduce risk even further.

We are sending any children home who are complaining of any illness and recommending they get tested. In order to safeguard even further, this may mean their siblings are sent home too, until we are sure they are all Covid free.

It is really difficult to identify where the virus is picked up from. Often I hear infected people say, ‘I’ve only been to the supermarket or out on walks’. Supermarkets are known to be a place where the infection can be picked up from trollies, baskets and card machines. Your place of work is clearly another hot spot – anywhere infact where there is mixing of people from different households. We really are trying so hard to keep it out of Newdale. As I have said, staff test twice, sometimes three times a week to ensure they are clear.

Please help us by keeping your child off if they are poorly and being extra careful when you are out and about.

The school email account, Facebook account and school mobile (07765147868) are all manned over the evenings and weekends. If you have a query or need to report a positive case use these contacts and let the Health Protection Hub know straight away please.

Fingers crossed we have seen the back of this horrible virus.

Kind regards

Yr 6 Arthog Trip

Dear Parents/Carers

Unfortunately, the Yr 6 Arthog trip will no longer be able to go ahead.  With the restrictions in place, the centre will be unable to open on the dates we booked and no further dates are available.

The year 6 team hope that at some point in the Summer term, when restrictions have eased,  that we may be able to organise some Arthog outreach days for the children to enjoy.

Refunds will be made to your Parentpay accounts but this may take a few weeks for us to process.

We understand this is really disappointing for the children and only hope they get the ‘Arthog experience’ at some point during their secondary journey.

Kind regards,

Year 6 Team
