Careers Week in Reception

This week has been Career Day at Newdale. We have learnt about different jobs and discussed what we might like to do when we grow up.
Yesterday morning was so exciting. We had a special visitor in class to tell us about his job. This was Sergeant Ashley who works in the Army.
Sergeant Ashley first taught us how to march like real soldiers. He then put us through our paces in a team based obstacle course to demonstrate the Army is all about teamwork. We then got to see what he has to carry around with him whilst away in his enormous backpack. We even got to try on his bulletproof army vest and helmet and then crawled through his tent. We all had the best time.

Updates

9.6.22

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are really excited about all of the events we have on offer for the children this half term. Healthy Schools week runs from 13th June to the 17th June and will include all sorts of fun activities for the children including special guest visitors, bubble football and of course, our 1km a day runs!

Mrs Thomas and Mr McFarland have bravely decided to put on a Year 6 production of Peter Pan which we hope you will be able to come and enjoy. The children are already probably driving you potty learning lines and songs!

As well as the above activities please refer to the website to find out about other events we have scheduled like the Summer Fayre and Family Lunch. Many schools have not yet gone wholeheartedly into events like this since the huge impacts of Covid and we are very proud in confidently moving forward for our children.

The response we have had to the new official start time being 8.40 am has been really positive – thank you! We have been giving flexibility this week and will continue with this next week, as everyone gets used to the new system.

Dudley, our new bear stands very proudly looking over our school. He will soon lose the barrier tape around him. Please be aware that he was created by the clever use of chainsaws and hence he does have some rough edges and potential splinter threats. We will ensure children are aware of this as they play near him during school time, but need you to make sure you fully supervise children at the beginning and end of the day please.

We are a large school which is now at over full capacity with 500+ children attending. As a result of this full capacity, it does mean that the beginning and end of the day is very busy. Please can you ensure your children do not ride bikes or scooters on the school site, as there are simply too many people around (some with pushchairs) that are in danger of being hurt. We have noticed some younger children running off from parents to perhaps be first to push the pedestrian crossing button. We do ask that you keep full control of your children at these busy times of the day to avoid any accidents from happening. If you have a Blue disabled badge and have to drive onto the site at these busy times, please could you wait until the main flow of parents and children have departed before you move your vehicle (this usually only takes 5 minutes).

We have a school rule in that mobile phones cannot be used on site. This is linked to our safeguarding policy. You will be asked to turn it off immediately, if you are seen. Thankyou.

Recently some members of the Newdale team took part in the

Telford Council Charity Fun Run. We are a community school and

all staff embrace this title and join in where they can. Next year I

have been promised that many more staff will join in!

Look forward to seeing as many parents as possible at our forthcoming events…

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Paternity news!

9.6.22

Dear Parents/Carers of Year 5 children,

As you may or may not know, Mr Banfield and his wife are expecting a baby over the next month or so. This letter is to let you know that Mr Banfield will commence paternity leave on Friday 8th July.

We are delighted to let you know that we do not have to rely on unfamiliar supply teachers to cover his class for the last couple weeks.

We have managed to arrange for Mrs Arthurs (experienced Year 5 teacher returning from Maternity leave), to teach this class until the end of the summer term.

Mrs Arthurs will work closely with Mr Banfield before his departure and we are very confident that the offer in your child’s class will remain very high.

We all wish Mr Banfield and his family the very best of luck and look forward to welcoming him back in September.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Year 5 Carding Mill Valley Trip

Good afternoon all,

Putting a last call out for volunteers! We would ideally like 2 more adults to accompany us on our trip to Carding Mill Valley – Tuesday 7th June 2022. We will be on the coach at 9:15am and return to school at roughly 3pm.

There will be some moderate walking on a fairly steep gravel path and helping children to sketch the landscape around them – no expertise on rivers needed. There are toilets on site and some break times between activities.

Please email the year 5 team at newdale.year5team@taw.org.uk if you are interested.

Thank you,

Year 5 team.
