EYFS Picture News

Hello Reception.

We hope you have all had an enjoyable Easter and made some special memories.

Here is the weekly news that we would normally look at in our class assemblies. This week it’s all about travelling.

EY Resource – 20th April

Where are you looking forward to travelling too after the lockdown ends? It doesn’t have to be anywhere far away. It could be your local park.

I am looking forward to taking my little boy to the Safari Park again and the Quarry park in Shrewsbury, so that he can play on the slide and swings.

On this document are questions that your parents and carers could ask you linked to the photo above and also some activities that you might want to try:

Reception New Spellings

Hello Reception!

We hope you are well and happy. We are so proud of all of the work and activities you have been doing over the past couple of weeks.

Here are some new spellings for you to learn at home. Remember to practise each day if you can!

We will attach the spellings for Red, Orange & Yellow group and Green & Blue group.

Please don’t worry if you don’t have a printer at home, you could just practise writing the spellings on your own piece of paper. If you have different colours maybe you could practise each day in a different colour to make your page look cheerful!

On a Friday ask a grown up to test you, like we do at school. Just ask them to say each word and you write it down on another piece of paper. Try your best to remember if there are any sounds you know in the word, what the word looks like, or what order the letters come in….. we bet you will all be ‘super spellers’!

We would love to hear/ see how you have got on, so if you want to share with us via the Evidence Me app that would be great.

We hope you enjoy Spelling Practice!

Adults if you have any questions please contact us by email at newdale.yearrteam@taw.org.uk

Best wishes,

The Reception Team

Value of the Month- April

Our value of the month for April is Freedom

What is Freedom?

  • Rights and responsibilities
  • Self-expression
  • Freedom of speech

Suggestions for parents to work with children at home:

  • Together, talk about people in history who were being ruled by someone else and wanted freedom, e.g. Moses and the Israelites, slaves in the US before the Civil War; Hanukkah; Nelson Mandela.
  • Discuss with your child about historical slavery and modern day human trafficking.
  • Discuss with your child about the Syria Refugee Crisis.
  • Different Rules of Law around the world. Discuss with your child democracy in Britain and how this may be different from countries around the world.
  • Freedom of self- expression. Discuss with your child the importance of their identity and being able to express themselves. Explain that people living in Britain are able to express themselves how they choose; as long as it doesn’t break the law (Individual Liberty).
  • Discuss inner freedom– having positive thoughts. What does inner freedom feel like? When do you feel most free? What kinds of thoughts make you feel free? Constrained?
