Read, Write Inc – Pure Sounds

Dear Parent/Carer,

The video link below explains how to pronounce each single letter sound correctly. These are called ‘pure sounds’ and are important in allowing your child to blend sounds into words.

‘How to say the sounds’: https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/iZqY6LWC/9PMBDFTQ

The most common sounds that children mispronounce are ‘t’, ‘c’, ‘l’, ‘m’, ‘n’, ‘s’, ‘k’, ‘f’, ‘r’, ‘v’ and ‘z’. Children mistakenly put an ‘uh’ sound on the end, making it a longer sound and thereby trickier to blend when reading a word. Please have a look at how to say these sounds in particular.

We hope that you find this helpful,

Newdale Read, Write Inc Team

Cool Cats visit to Nursery and School was just purrfect ! 😻

This week Cool Cat had a purrfect time welcoming all children who were on time for Nursery and School each morning! We hope you all managed to get a high five at least once this week!

Thank you to all who arrive on time – our lessons start each morning promptly at 8:30 for nursery and 8:40 for school. The registers are then taken, its such a positive start to the day when the children all start together.

It was lovely chasing his tail capturing the moments of happy smiling children, rushing to give a quick cat cuddle or high five.
one boy shouted ” Yes mommy i did it ! I love Cool Cat ” ❤️👏🏻

Ciao Reception! 🇮🇹

Today we celebrated the European Day of Languages.
We were learning all about Italy 🇮🇹. What a wonderful day we had!

We learnt about where Italy is on a map and spotted that it was shaped like a boot! We looked at some of the famous landmarks there. We talked about the traditional food, such as pizza and pasta that is eaten there.

We learnt about the traditional type of mosaic art and then created our class mosaic of the Italian flag.

We then read Pinocchio at story time. We recognised this tale, but discovered it was written by an Italian author long ago.

As part of our continuous provision, we worked as a team to create an Italian themed paper chain. We made pizzas from play dough complete with toppings. We acted out the story of Pinocchio. We used construction to make our own Italian landmarks including the very challenging leaning tower of Pisa!

We were so lucky that Mrs Giordano from Nursery came to visit. She taught us some Italian words and even heads, shoulders, knees and toes in Italian!
Thank you for coming in the traditional Italian colours. We cannot wait for next year with another exciting new country to learn about.

Safeguarding, Health & Safety Governors Committee

Governors from the Health and Safety committee met last week. They were delighted to hear that the children from Year 3, 4 and 5 talked so confidently about E Safety and what do if they felt uncomfortable about something online.

They were reassured that the Health and Safety policy and procedure across Early Years is robust.

Governors again put a spotlight over the induction procedures and were happy that a newly appointed member of the Newdale team spoke confidently about the process and the impact it has had on her first few weeks at our school.

Governors look forward to talking to more children and staff next half term.

Reception European Day Message

On Tuesday 26th Reception will be learning about Italy!

Children are invited to come in wearing colours of the Italian flag (Green, white and red).  Please wear comfortable footwear, such as trainers, so that your child can join in PE as usual. They will not need to wear or bring in additional PE kit for this day.

Curriculum Governors Committee Update

The Curriculum Governors met yesterday and were super impressed with the amount of work carried out by staff and pupils in such a short space of time since the start of the term.

A selection of KS 2 SEND mathematicians came to share their books and views on how they have started the year. They all love maths and their books looked amazing!

Governors were very impressed with the amount of work completed by the new music lead since she took up this role in September. They were excited to see the impact on the children’s enjoyment linked to music.

Governors approved the equality targets for 2023-2024 and encourage parents/carers to look at this on the website.

Governors had a detailed update from the SENDco and were impressed with the action plan and future plans around parental communication linked to SEND.

Well done Reception 👏🏻 🌟

We would like to say a huge well done to all the new Reception children for completing their first full week of school. ⭐️
They have worked so hard and have settled in well to the new routines of school. We have loved getting to know everybody. We can imagine some big yawns tonight at bedtime! 🥱
Have a wonderful, well-deserved rest over the weekend and we look forward to hearing about your weekend on Monday.
The Reception Team 😊

Book covers

We have a number of children who have not completed front covers for their books (drawing their favourite book characters and then writing what the story is)

Please can these be completed with children at home as soon as possible.

Many thanks
