RSE Parent Consultation

Just a reminder that we will be holding our RSE (relationships and sex education) parent consultation this afternoon at 2pm. It will be an opportunity to find out more about this aspect of our curriculum. This  event was advertised in our key dates earlier on in the term.

Many thanks

Miss Cook.

Secondary School Applications – September 2023

The closing date for secondary school applications is 31st October 2022

Parent / Carers can submit up to four preference schools on the application and we encourage parents to apply for more than one school as if Admissions are unable to offer their preferred school they may be allocated a school that is some distance away if their catchment school is already full.  Each year Admissions see a lot of applications that have only one preference which can lead to a lot of disappointment when allocated a school some distance from their home address.

Grandparents Tea Party

Grandparents Tea Party

Monday 17th October 2022

We are excited to announce that we will once more be holding our annual grandparent’s tea party on Monday 17th October 2022.

We respectfully ask that only Grandparents attend this event. Please could all Grandparents arrive at school for 2.00pm at the main entrance where you will then be escorted to your Grandchild’s class (if you have more than one, we will try to gather them all together!).

You will spend around 30 minutes in the classroom where we hope you will enjoy some time sharing activities with the children.

At 2.30pm you will be invited to come to come to one of our refreshment areas with your Grandchildren for tea and cake / biscuits. We know it is tempting to sneak extra treats for your Grandchildren, but please do not, as we will only have catered for Grandparents. Children will get a biscuit!

Just before home time, your Grandchildren will return to class, and you will be asked to leave via the main entrance near the office. If you are taking your Grandchildren home, then you will be asked to sign them out at the main office.

Safeguarding: please remember that if you are not the usual person collecting, the teacher will need prior notice that you are authorised to collect – this is best noted by the child’s parent in their home school book.

This year we would like to link this event to the launch of our new GATEWAY project.  We are hopeful that some of our grandparents might be able to donate non-perishable food items or toiletries towards this project. These donations will undoubtedly support some of our families in our local community as everyone is feeling the pressure due to the cost of living.

Attendance Letter from Miss Cook

Dear Parents/Carers

Attendance

As you know, being in school on time and every day is extremely important for all children in order that they receive the best possible start to their learning. We have recently sent out a one-page information sheet with lots of useful facts about attendance and what we do in our school.

We all know that good attendance is vital to a successful education, as this is the foundation for lifelong learning. We very much appreciate that sometimes children must miss school for a medical appointment that cannot be made out of school time. We also appreciate that sickness cannot be helped.

Please ensure that you make all reasonable efforts to send your child into school. Sometimes you might suspect that your child is slightly under the weather, but well enough to come to school. That is fine, as staff will monitor very carefully and if necessary, can administer medication and a call later on in the day. Sometimes a magic dose of Calpol is all that is needed. Clearly, there are some illnesses that mean there is no choice other than keeping them off for the day. The office staff are more than happy to discuss any queries you have.

Did you know that a child having 90% attendance is the same as having one day off every two weeks? If their attendance drops to 80%, that is the same as having a day off every week. Lessons are planned in sequences and if a child misses a part of this sequence, they are at a disadvantage when it comes to committing that learning to long term memory.

Mrs Powell, Mrs Millington and I, monitor the attendance figures every three weeks along with our Education Welfare Officer.  We discuss all attendance below 95% and put actions in place to support children and families where we notice patterns in absence.

Not only do we monitor individual children’s attendance, but we also look at the attendance of each class in our school. We are going to bring back more recognition for good attendance during our achievement assemblies now that we can be together in the hall again. The classes with the highest attendance will be announced in assembly every week.

Attendance Incentives

Cool Cat visits Newdale and greets the children arriving at school. He will visit again this year:

26th – 30th September 2022

23rd – 27th January 2023

24th – 28th April 2023

Children with 100% attendance will receive a treat.

The class with the best attendance each week will also receive a treat.

It is important to remind you the law states that: “The parent of every child of statutory school age is compelled by law to ensure such a child attends school unless there is a reasonable excuse for non-attendance.  Failure to do so may result in legal action being taken against you”.

Thank you in advance for your continued support in helping us do the best we can for your children.

Home Communication Books

Please be aware that your children’s communication books are not always checked first thing in the morning. Their books will always be checked every day but (as I’m sure you can understand) our Teaching Assistant team is very busy and sometimes check the books later in the school day. If you have an important message, which a teacher needs to be aware of immediately, please speak to your child’s teacher directly; let the office know or use the year group email address to send this message. Any messages associated with medication or illness should be directed to the school office, who can then inform the child’s class teacher promptly.

School Books

Dear parent / carer,

At this time of year, we send home the books containing the work that your child has completed over this year.

Please note that some subject books will now follow your child through school so these books may not have come home yet: art, geography, history, French and Chance to Shine.

Kind regards…

Family Lunch

13.7.22

Family Lunch

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our termly Family lunch is finally returning after three years. The closing date for booking a hot school lunch has gone, however you can still join in and bring your own sandwiches.  We politely ask that you do not bring in Macdonald’s, Burger King, fizzy pop etc.

School Menu (We have to plan a menu that is easily transportable!)

Burger, wedges beans and peas

Vegetarian option Quorn burger

Vegan option Vegan Burger

Biscuit selection or cupcakes

Nursery Family lunch will start at 11.20am, please make your way to the main office where the Nursery staff will take you to collect your lunch and then join your child in the Nursery.  This event is for our children who attend Nursery on a Tuesday lunchtime.

School Family lunch will start at 11.45. Please make your way to the main office.

Parents who have booked a lunch will be asked to queue outside on the left-hand side (staff will issue you with your pre booked ticket which you will have booked via ParentPay).

Those parents who are bringing their own lunch, please queue on the right.

Parent’s will be asked to make their way to their child’s classroom to collect their child first (don’t worry we will have Year 6 children to guide you if you are unsure of where to go).  Parents and children will then be asked to make their way down the corridor into the hall to collect lunches, please then exit out of the school hall by the stairs (don’t worry your child will know which way to go!).  You are then free to return to your child’s classroom or to make your way outside and enjoy the sunshine (fingers crossed). Perhaps bring a picnic blanket to sit on the grass.

We apologise in advance for any queues that may occur. They usually go down very quickly as we have additional staff working in the kitchen to support this event.

Unfortunately, there will be no parking on site for this event unless you are a blue badge holder.  Please remember that we have a no mobile phone policy on site, they will need to be turned off and kept in pockets or handbags for the duration of the event.

The event will run up until 1.00pm.  We are very much looking forward to welcoming you all back into Newdale. Needless to say, if you are feeling under the weather with possible symptoms of the new variant, then please cancel and stay away.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Year 6 RSE Lesson

Dear Parents/Carers of Year 6.

Next week, year 6 will be having their RSE lesson. If you do not wish for your child to be part of this lesson, please get in touch via the reading diary. If we do not receive communication, then we will assume that consent has been given.

Thank you, Mrs Thomas and Mr McFarland.

Sports Day

June 2022

Sports Day

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are delighted to be able to run Sports Day again this year without the disruption of Covid. You will have already been given dates though our ‘Key Dates’ information, but I just want to remind everyone now of the dates again and relay some organisational points.

Year 5/6                     Monday 20th  June             1.15-3.00pm

Reception                Tuesday 21st June             9.00-10.20am

Year 3/4                     Tuesday 21st June             1.15-3:00pm

Year 1/2                     Wednesday 22nd June      1.15-3.00pm

We have a few reserve dates up our sleeve, but hope that the weather will be kind. We will update you if we have to pull on our reserve dates.

We are running the event in ‘Houses’. The children will run for either Wenlock, Ironbridge, Severn or Wrekin.

Children will undoubtedly tell you which house they are in.

The sports day will be carried out on the new Astro football pitch.  We will open the gate by Mrs Thomas’ classroom 10 minutes before each event starts. Children will be based on the side of the Astro that backs onto the Wrekin Way path. We ask parents to take up a spectator spot on the opposite side (where the Oak tree is) or up on the bank. Staff will direct you! Please make sure you use the toilet before coming to sports day, as we will not be able to offer toilet facilities to parents.

Due to the time the children will be outside, could you please ensure that your child has applied sun cream before coming to school and that they bring a hat with them.  Drinks will be provided for them at various stages but a water bottle on sports day is a must.

It is the first time we have run a sports day on the new Astro so please bear with us. Mr Birch, Miss Jones, and the team have worked hard in making sure it runs smoothly, with of course the main driver being that all children have fun!

Yours sincerely,

Miss Cook
