Newdale Families – Religion Census October 2021

We hope you have all settled back into the school routines for this academic year. My name is Miss McCullagh and this year I will be co-ordinating Religious Education at Newdale.

To help us understand more about our families, we would really like an updated picture of the different religions, beliefs and values held by the children, and families, within our Newdale community. This will support us in ensuring that our Religious Education offer is as inclusive as possible for our community.

We would be really grateful if you could spend 5 minutes completing the survey below, by Tuesday 19th October.

Thank you in advance, for you support 😊

Reception Royal Banquet

Thank you for providing wonderful costumes today for our royal banquet in reception.
Great fun was had by all! We had a feast fit for a King or Queen outside in the sunshine, followed by dancing and party games. A real celebration of all the wonderful work we have been doing.

Covid Information for Nursery Parents/Carers

Dear parents / carers,

We are finding that there are some children who are coming into Nursery suffering from symptoms which may be a sign that they may have the Covid-19 virus.

If children come into Nursery with a main symptom e.g. coughing, then they will be sent home and are advised to have a full PCR test. This guidance is from the Health protection hub and is in place to try to minimise the spread of infection.

The latest covid guidance for Telford and Wrekin can be found here – Do you have main COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms? – Do you have main COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms? – Telford & Wrekin Council

Main symptoms are listed as

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

Precautionary symptoms on here are outlined as

You are advised to book a COVID-19 test as a precaution, if you are showing some other symptoms that you might have this virus, such as:

  • headaches
  • aches and pains
  • feeling very tired for no good reason
  • sore throat
  • runny nose
  • sneezing
  • tummy ache in children.

We will always follow the guidance from the hub to keep our staff and pupils as safe as possible.

Thank you for your continued support

Reading in Yr 6

Dear Year 6 parents,

We wanted to remind you of the high emphasis we place on home reading and homework in year 6.

As reading is at the very heart of all learning your child will do, both here and at secondary school over the next five years, we expect all children to read for a minimum of five nights and comment on what they have read to build vital skills of comprehension, and to help them engage with the book they have independently chosen. Such tasks also support their ability to create passages of their own writing, and to consider how to structure their responses.

In May, your child will complete an end of KS2 reading SAT paper which is long – one hour of reading three texts and answering questions about each one. Clearly, this requires quite a lot of reading stamina, and this is another reason that we encourage so much this year.

In addition, we have set all children up with access to the quick Read Theory programme which we have found invaluable in the last few years. We allow time for this in school but if your child can access this at home, their morning work can be spent on other skills, such as quick maths or handwriting / spelling practise.

We do appreciate your support with this as we strive to ensure your child makes the best possible progress they can this year.

Kind regards,

Mrs Thomas and Miss Clay

Year 3’s Nature Walk 🌳🌳

Year 3 had a lovely afternoon on their nature walk today. We explored our local area and managed to spot, and name, lots of different trees. We also collected different seeds that we will investigate next week.

Can you find any of the 3 Hs (Holly, Hawthorn, Hazel) around your home?

Reception Royal Banquet

A reminder that on Monday 11th October, we will be holding our Royal Banquet. Children are invited to bring in a change of clothes for the party in a bag to change into after lunch. This can be a costume, such as a King, Queen, dragon, Knight, etc. or just party clothes if you would prefer. This will be instead of forest school, so you do not need kits for this that day. We will share our photos with you afterwards.
