E-Safety Top Tip – keeping your child safer online

3 steps you can take to help keep your child safer online

Parental controls: Parental controls have been designed to help you manage your child’s online activities. There are various types, some of which are free but others which can be bought. However, nothing is totally fool proof so this shouldn’t replace the  support and guidance you  give your child to help keep them safer.  For more information and step by step instructions on setting up parental controls, visit Parental Controls & Privacy Settings Guides – Internet Matters.

Supervise their online activity: Keep the devices your child uses in communal areas of the house such as the living room or kitchen, where an adult is able to supervise. Primary-age children should not access the internet in private spaces alone, such as in a bedroom or bathroom.

Explore together and chat little and often: Ask your child to show you their favourite apps, games and sites and encourage them to teach you how to use these. Ask them if anything ever worries them online. Make sure they know they won’t be in trouble and can get help by talking to you or another adult they trust if anything happens online that makes them feel worried, sad or scared.

Menu Change Thursday 7th & Friday 8th October 2021

There will be a change to the school menu next week, please see below.

Thursday 7th October – Fish & Chips

Friday 8th October – Chicken Goujons (tikka or korma curry sauce) vegetarian option of vegetable bean parcel

Thursday 7th October Census Day

Can you help our school on Census Day – next Thursday 7th October?

We have to provide information to the Department for Education (DfE),  which dictates how much funding the school receives. As you know, the more funding we receive, the better provision we can provide for your children.

One of the key funding categories is how many children take up Universal Free School Meals (UFSM) on census day. All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free meal (hot dinner or sandwich) every day. Some parents choose not to take this offer and supply their children with a packed lunch.  We always try to ensure that on census day one of the more popular meal choices is available. On this day, we have changed the menu to fish & chips but remember there is also the school sandwich option which is very popular for many children.

We would like your help to try and encourage your child to take up the UFSM offer and if at all possible test it out next Thursday!

Many thanks

Children in Need Video

Towards the beginning of November, Year 4 will be taking part in a Children in Need singing event. All children will practise the song and dance movements during the weeks leading up to it; however, it is down to parents whether they are filmed for the BBC.  If you would like your child to be filmed, please can you return the permission slip to their class teacher. Permission slips were sent out last week. If you have misplaced this, please let us know or alternatively you can write a comment which gives your consent in their diary.

More information will follow nearer the time.

Many thanks
