PE Tuesdays and Thursdays

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please remember that Year 5’s PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. As per Miss Cook’s recent correspondence, please ensure that your child comes into school in regulation Newdale PE kit on those days.

Thank you for your support,

The Year 5 Team

Y4 Important Information

The adults in Year 4 have really enjoyed meeting our classes today.

Thank you for your patience at the end of the day. As expected, it will take a little bit of time for staff to become familiar with parents/adults collecting children from our classes. To avoid congestion outside the decking area/bottom of the steps, if you are happy for your child to walk and meet you at the gate, please write a message in your child’s reading diary or email us on: newdale.year4team@taw.org.uk.

Exciting News:

We are very excited to announce that your child will be taking part in an Egyptian Day this Thursday in school. They don’t need to bring anything in apart from what they would usually do for a school day and children are expected to wear their school uniform.  We will post pictures to share what they have learnt later on in the week.

Many thanks

The Y4 Team

Update on the return to school – 3rd September 2021

Dear Parents / Carers,

As we all know, this terrible virus is still present in our community. When looking at the risks of infection, being outside in the fresh air is far safer than being inside. With this in mind we have been deciding what to do with the one-way system at drop off and collection times.

The advice is that one-way systems are no longer needed. We have thought carefully about this and decided that we are going to remove the need for a ‘one way’ route, but instead ask that people keep on the move wherever possible. We kindly ask you to not gather in groups and remain aware of keeping socially distanced. We ask that people continue to communicate with staff wherever possible via the home school books/staff who are on duty and to try to exit the site as quickly as possible following drop off and collection.

Staff have been working very hard making sure your children will have a really positive start to the new year. Classrooms are all set and I know teachers have been very busy planning lots of exciting lessons.

Please do remember that the skill of reading is essential. We ask that you set up a routine with your children as soon as you can, so that they get used to reading everyday and learn to love books.

Please check out your class teachers website page for information such as PE days and forthcoming events.

We all look forward to seeing everyone on Monday at 8.40 am.

Homework in Year 4

Reading

During the first few days back, your child will choose a new colour banded book to read at home. Your child will be listened to read by an adult in school to assess their current reading level. As well as this, children will still have access to Bug Club, Oxford Owl and Fiction Express, which provides e-books they can read at home. Login details can be found in your child’s reading diary. We encourage both children and adults at home to record in diaries at least 3 times a week.

Times Tables

In Year 4, children are required to regularly practise their times tables. Each child will be given a times table book which they can use at home as well as their login for Times Table Rockstars, which is a fantastic online resource to increase confidence, engagement, speed and progress with your child’s times table knowledge. Children will be tested on their times tables every Wednesday.

In the summer term, all Year 4 children will be tested on their multiplication knowledge using an online check produced by the DFE. More information will be sent out about this nearer the time. It is not a test for children to worry about. The check is intended to assess where each child is at with their times tables in preparation for Year 5. As a school, we prepare children for this check as well as ensuring that they are equipped with the times table knowledge to support them within their maths lessons.

Spellings

Your child will receive a new set of spellings each week. To support the teaching and learning of these spellings in class, please encourage your child to practise these each day. You will find the spelling sheet in your child’s reading diary. Your child will be tested on their spellings every Friday.

We will share these expectations with the children on their first day back.

Many thanks
