New critical worker/vulnerable child form – Monday 1st – Friday 5th February 2021

Please complete the form below if your child is eligible for a school place during the current school closure. All applications will be reviewed and considered once the form has closed at 9.00am on Thursday 28th January.

Please note that the filling in of this form does not guarantee you a place.

A member of school staff will contact you Friday afternoon to inform you if we can safely offer your child/ren a place.  If we are unable to, we will support you in directing you to the remote learning offer we have in place.

All school staff would like to thank you for your unwavering support in these testing times.

Year 2 Home Learning – Wednesday 27th January

Hello Year 2! 😊

There will be two live lessons on Wednesday, Maths at 9.30am and a British Values lesson at 11am.  You should have received an invite for this session however if not, then you can join the meeting through the Teams app. Please come to each meeting armed with paper and a pen to write.

Following the live lessons, the worksheets below should be completed.  You do not need to print these sheets but the children will need to see it so they can work out their answers.

Addition word problems (all groups)

Wednesday 2021 British Values sheet

If you are unable to attend the live sessions, a recording of the lesson will always be available afterwards.  Worksheets and any further instructions will be shared via the website. We understand that this is tricky for some of you working from home, especially those with siblings so we understand that it is not always possible to join live. We hope the recordings help to support this.

Other home learning activities set for today:

Literacy – Can you complete this SPAG quiz?

Wednesday 27th January 2021 Year 2 SPAG Quiz

Guided Reading – Read this short text and then answer the questions.

Wednesday 27th January 2021

Spellings – our spelling rule for this week is words ending in al.  Please see Mrs Thomas’ website post for today’s activity.

Times Tables – please see Mrs Horler’s post for today’s activity.

If you have any questions please email us on newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

We are extremely grateful for all of your support.

Many thanks,

Miss Newport and Miss Jones 😊 😊

Year 2 Home Learning update

Following feedback from the Parent survey, we will be slightly amending how we share home learning in Year 2.  We hope that this will make things easier for you all at home.

From now on we will:

– Post all work on the website at the same time.  This will be the day before it is to be completed, at around 4pm.  This gives adults the opportunity to print sheets and prepare for the next day’s learning.

– Post all learning/worksheets and instructions onto the Year 2 Homework part of the website (as well as where it currently is on the Year 2 News).  If you click on the homework tab then you will be able to view the work only and not the other website posts.  This should make it easier to quickly locate all the work to be completed for each day.

If you have any problems locating this area of the website then please email us at newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Many thanks for your ongoing support.

26.1.21 Update linked to online learning

Dear Parents/Carers,

Firstly I want to say a huge thank you to all those parents who spent the time filling in the Online Learning Survey (127 received). We are delighted with your feedback and have shared your wonderful comments with the whole team and Governors.  We have now read each and every one and here are just some of the highlights and the areas that we are now working on:

Highlights

  • You are delighted that children who are working at home are getting the exact same offer as the children who are attending school.
  • The live learning lessons are a hit! Your children are loving seeing their teachers and friends in the same way that the teachers are loving seeing them too!
  • Communication between school staff and you is brilliant: staff are working hard to support you even out of school hours.
  • You have complimented all our staff teams about how hard they are working.

Areas we are now working on

  • Ensuring that work is organised (maybe in dated folders) and daily or weekly timetables are shared so that you can see easily what needs to be done and when.
  • Uploading the work the night before, in order for you to prepare if you wish.
  • Offering a wider variety of lessons e.g. topic days or art days.
  • Giving more opportunities for pupils to meet e.g. carrying out ‘show and tell.’
  • Supporting you further in understanding topics and concepts e.g. vocabulary definitions and Maths knowledge organisers.

Year group teachers may also feedback specific points to you based on comments that link to their particular year group.

We are constantly reviewing our offer and it is wonderful to have this feedback to work on.

We appreciate that it is very difficult for children to maintain the level of concentration and motivation needed for home learning and we are so proud of them for keeping going. Our priority is clearly the wellbeing of your children and of course ensuring they continue to make as much progress as they can, so that when this virus is under more control, they will still remain where they should be with their learning.

Senior managers met last night and have begun plans to incorporate some sessions that would have been going on in school, that perhaps have less structure than normal. For example, next week on Tuesday afternoon, all children in school will be given the opportunity to see an online pantomime that we have purchased for them.  The team is also planning in more themed days and practical art days which we know the children will enjoy and will potentially give adults who are supporting a bit of relief! Please remember that teachers are conscious that parents at home, may well be working from home, and therefore the sessions are designed for the children to work as independently as possible – don’t let your children trick you into thinking you need to be supporting them through every minute of every session – they would be working independently in the classroom too!

It has gone very quiet as far as announcements from the Government about schools are concerned. As soon as we hear what the plan is, we will of course let you know.

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Cook

Headteacher

Y4 Parent Feedback

You spoke, we listened…

Thank you to all the parents who completed the online survey. Please see below how we are addressing points shared with us.

Suggestion:

An opportunity for the children to talk to their friends.

Action:

Weekly Show and Tell/Celebration Assembly via Teams on a Friday at 2:30pm

Suggestion:

Children seeing both Year 4 teachers on live lessons.

Action:

Both teachers are now delivering live lessons. Please note that initially it was just Mrs Fenn as we were all finding our feet with working remotely whilst managing children in school too.

A quick reminder about live lessons. These are held twice a day: for Literacy (9:30am) and Maths (11am). In school, we would normally dedicate 1 hour to each of these subjects. The live lessons usually last between 15-20 minutes (however the actual Teams session is longer as we wait to ensure children have all logged on and then have a chance to ask questions at the end). This leaves the remaining time for children to complete their work and for adults in school to mark and return it to children. For those parents who are not aware of this already, both Mr Jackson and Mrs Fenn have vulnerable and key worker children in their classrooms whilst they deliver these live lessons. In addition to these live lessons, other work is set daily for children to complete such as spellings and Guided Reading. Subjects such as Science, History, RE, PE, Computing etc are set weekly. To support children with lessons such as Computing and Life Learning, we attach a PDF information sheet, which is a copy of the flipchart we would normally share with children in class. Children need to read this information first before starting their task. With regards to the amount of work set daily, the government have made it statutory that key stage two children must receive four hours of learning/work per day.  The amount of work we set reflects this guidance.

There were some issues in the survey  which we were not aware of. Please remember if you are having any issues, or have any questions,  email our dedicated Year 4 account: newdale.year4team@taw.org.uk. As we are sure many parents who have used this would agree, this is an efficient way to communicate with the Year 4 team, and resolve problems quickly.

Many thanks

Well done everyone for continuing with your home learning. We are so proud of your determination and perseverance. This week, Miss Cook and Mrs Bishton are looking at children’s work in the following subjects on Google Classroom:

For a chance to receive a special virtual sticker from them, make sure you submit your work for these subjects. Make sure you try extra hard as there are only a few stickers to be rewarded. Make sure it is your work which stands out from the rest!

Fun in the snow ⛄️ ❄️

We were so lucky today for nature to provide us with the best forest school experience. Everywhere was covered in snow, so this afternoon we headed outside to build a snowman and then off to the field to run around, make snow angels and run down the snowy hills.  It really was so much fun. Hope everybody at home made the most of the weather while it lasts. We miss you and would love to see your outdoor snow experiences at home on EvidenceMe.
