Finance and Personnel Governors Committee update

9.5.23

The Finance and Personnel committee met last week. Like all committees this one meets every half term.

This committee meets to ensure that the school expenditure is carefully considered to ensure the best interests of the child.

Governors were delighted to spend time talking to a parent of a child in year 5, who in her responses reassured governors that the best interests of the children are at the heart of all financial decision making.

Governors were updated on the potential staffing structure for next year and felt confident that the continued high standards of education will be sustained.

Governors are always happy to hear from parents. We love to pass on positive news and as ever are always keen to sort out any issues that parents have. All you need do is email into the school and a Governor will get back to you!

Kind regards,

Finance & Personnel Governors.

Coronation Celebrations in Reception 🇬🇧

This week we have embraced the opportunity to learn about our King and the upcoming coronation, a moment in History.
We have read a variety of books about the King and the coronation.
We took part in our own democracy, thinking about the qualities a King or Queen might need and then holding a ballot to vote for our own class King and Queen, which were revealed this afternoon as part of the celebrations.
We got creative and each completed a portrait of the King, which will be turned into a masterpiece for a whole school monarchy timeline. We also made our very own golden crowns, complete with jewels for the party and to take home to wear. The week was completed with a class coronation party. We played games and had a jewel hunt. We also listened to the National Anthem.
We would love to see your own experiences of celebrating the coronation if you choose to do so over the weekend. We hope everyone has a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Reception Fun at the Forest

Reception have had lots of fun in the Forest today making ‘Nature Windows’.

We looked at signs of Summer and thought about the different things we might see outside now it is getting warmer.

We then explored the outdoors and worked with a partner to find different natural objects to make our own ‘Nature Windows’. We thought very carefully about the position of our objects to make a picture.

We had pictures of spiders, snowfall, rainbows, trees and the sun. I wonder if you can tell which one is which…?

Yr R – Reading at home

Please could we remind you to read regularly with your child and write in the diary if your child has read at home or if you are reading to your child. We are sure you are reading at home but our reading diaries are not being written in. Thanks so much, Reception Team.

Reception’s Special Visitors

Over the last two days in Reception we have had some very special visitors. Mrs Sturrock brought in her stick insects for us to see.

We learnt some interesting facts about the stick insects and then were able to hold them, if we wanted to too. We were all so brave and all decided we wanted a hold.

We think the stick insects thought we were trees, they were very good at climbing up us and held on very tight too.

It was lots of fun!

An update from the Newdale Governors 28/3/23

As proud governors of Newdale Primary School and Nursery, we attend regular committee meetings in school – where we look at how the school continues to provide such a high standard of education for your child, and where we have the opportunity to see and discuss school life from the perspective of the staff and the pupils.

Today, as part of one of these Governor committees, we looked at a sample of Literacy books and listened to a group of Year 6 children talk about their learning. All of these children commented on how they felt well prepared for their move to secondary school and excited about their next steps (and even more transition activities will be taking place in the summer term!).

We are continually seeking the views of children to ensure that the decision making has them at the centre. We are pleased that the children can speak so enthusiastically about their school, but we are keen to not only get the views of children and staff but also parents. We look forward to analysing the recent parent survey that many of you kindly filled in during parent consultation week.

As Governors, we really do want to support our school in ensuring that we educate children to become ‘doers, believers and achievers’. If you would like contact Governors to celebrate something that has happened or make suggestions on what we could do differently,  please do email in on newdale.primary@taw.org.uk and we will make sure we respond.

On behalf of the governing body,

Mrs Carole Williams, Mrs Beryl Mason and Mrs Karen Rowley

Mrs Sturrock’s parents’ meetings

If you had a parents’ evening appointment booked for today (10th March) Mrs Sturrock will try and call you today. If you do not get a call, she will be in touch to re-arrange your appointment for next week or the week after.
