Healthy Lifestyle Week – A visit from Paul Sturgess

We had the best day in Reception to kick off HLW. We had a special visit from Paul Sturgess, former Harlem Globe Trotter.

After an inspirational talk, we got to learn some amazing basketball tricks. We can’t wait to see what sporty things you get up to this week. Please either email or post onto EvidenceMe to keep us updated.

Family Tree – Yr R

A quick reminder that we will be discussing different types of families and looking at our family tree tomorrow. If you have done any work with your child on this, or have made your own family tree, please can you bring it in, in the morning for your child to share.

Governors involvement from the Curriculum committee

The Curriculum committee meets every half term and yesterday governors thoroughly enjoyed listening to a group of year 3 children sharing French songs and confidently sharing their extensive knowledge on the geography and culture of France.

Governors were also super impressed with how articulately another group of children from across the school, could talk about physical and human geography. They explained how they use their skills and equipment to carry out tasks. Governors were happy to hear them talk about trips they had been on and the use of such technical vocabulary. Children were proud to share their geography books with governors, which clearly show progression from year 1 to year 6. Governors look forward next time to talking to mathematicians across the school.

Health and Safety Governor Committee Update

Governors met on Friday 26th May as part of the Health and Safety committee. They spoke to children in year 3 and 4 regarding the behaviour systems used across our school. It was clear to Governors that the children like the systems we have in place and believe them to be fair. The children could clearly see the benefits of following the BeSMART code.

The governors also spoke with the site manager, Mr Thomas. They asked him about the checks he carries out linked to site safety/maintenance, water safety, road/ traffic management and electrical safety. Governors were satisfied that his understanding of policy and procedure is robust and that his training is of a high level.

We would like to update with you with staffing in Reception after half term.  Mrs Stevens, teaching assistant based in Miss Hailey’s class, will be moving from the Reception team to support in another year group for the remainder of this academic year. We would like to thank Mrs Stevens for all her hard work supporting the Reception children in their first year at school.
