Finance and Personnel Governors Involvement

Finance and Personnel Governors met on Wednesday 16th July. They concluded their focus on PE by looking at the planning format and then talking to a group of Year 4 – 6 children about the offer. They were happy to hear the children talk so positively about the PE offer at Newdale.

Governors spent time looking at the finances for the school and nursery. They recognised the difficult balance between securing enough staff to support higher than usual numbers of special educational needs, against the income the school receives. They understand that systems across the setting will undoubtedly have to change in order to accommodate this need.

Last week for Year 6!

Can you believe that it is only one week to go until Year 6 leave Newdale?!

Please see below some key information for next week:

Water Fight!

On Monday, the children will be having a water fight just before the end of the school day. Your child is welcome to bring a change of clothes (which they will change into prior), a towel and a water gun with them to school. They may come home very wet!

Wednesday

On Wednesday, the children will be taking all of their school books home. Please ensure they bring additional bags with them to school to allow for this. Children who walk home from school may need help from their parents on this afternoon.

The Final Day

On the last day, children are invited to dress down and come to school party ready. Face paint/jewels, hair glitter and festival accessories are all welcome! In fact, the more colourful and sparkly, the better! Should children wish to, they can bring a shirt/t-shirt that they wish other children to sign during the day.

Parents are invited to arrive at the office from 1pm for a 1.15pm start in the hall, where the children will sing their leaver’s song. We will then all move to the field to enjoy the leaver’s party until 3.00pm. There will be a range of activities for you and your children to participate in or you can choose to relax on the grass, catch up and celebrate for one last time! Please bring picnic blankets for relaxing in the sunshine (hopefully) and have your phone at the ready for some great photo opportunities.

See you there!

The Year 6 team

Y6 End of Year trip – Thursday 10th July

For the Year 6 Town Park trip tomorrow, please can children come wearing either normal uniform or PE kit, whichever they find more comfortable and trainers, have sun cream already applied and bring a hat and plenty of water.

Thank you

Year 6 team

School Uniform

As the weather is getting warmer, please can you ensure that your child has a water bottle, a sun hat and wears sun cream to school. If your child needs to reapply sunscreen during the day, we ask that it’s kept in their bag with their name on, and then applied by the themselves when appropriate.

Just a quick reminder about our uniform policy…

At Newdale our school colours are navy blueblack and grey.

We request children wear a navy jumper or cardigan and grey or black skirts / pinafores or trousers along with a light blue collared shirt. If you would like to order uniform with our school logo on, please do so via Baker and Sons Schoolwear in New Street, Wellington 01952 641897.  This is not compulsory: uniform without a logo is acceptable as long as it matches our chosen colours. In warmer months, blue gingham dresses / black or grey smart shorts can be worn.  Please ensure that these are of an appropriate length and aren’t too high above the knee.

All children need to wear sensible shoes (no heels or trainers please). In the colder weather, girls are permitted to wear black, navy or grey tights.

PE Kit

We have decided that we will continue with allowing children to come to school in their School PE kit on PE days. The reasons for this is linked to the time it takes for some children to get changed often eats significantly into the actual time carrying out PE lessons. It is also much simpler to do this, when looking at the lack of private space for children to get changed, and the unhygienic option of them getting changed in the toilets.

The school PE kit is as follows –

A plain or school logo navy PE top

Plain navy shorts or tracksuit bottoms

A plain or school logo navy sweatshirt/hoodie

Black pumps or trainers

We do ask that no sports logo kit is used as school PE kit please – they must be either plain or with the Newdale logo. It is important that everyone abides by our uniform rules as we know how important is it that children feel part of our Newdale team.

Thank you for your continued support.

We hope you continue to enjoy this glorious weather.

Photo Consent for Careers Day

As you all know, we had a fantastic careers day this week. We are very grateful to the people that came in to share what they do with our children.

Some of our visitors have asked if they can be sent some of the photoshots we took to put on their social media eg the police would like some to form part of their safer neighbourhood work.

We know who does not give photo consent in our school, but just wanted to check everyone else is happy for this to happen.

If you are not, please contact the office by Friday lunchtime.

Kind regards,

Careers Day at Newdale Primary School – A Fantastic Friday to Remember!

Careers Day 2025 Video

On Friday, Newdale Primary School held a fantastic whole school Careers Day, and what an inspiring day it was! We were incredibly lucky to welcome a wide range of volunteers from many different professions who gave up their time to talk to the children, provide exciting activities to take part in, and share their passion for their careers. The school was buzzing with excitement as pupils explored the endless possibilities for their futures.

A huge thank you goes out to all our wonderful volunteers who helped make Careers Day such a huge success. Staff and pupils alike had an amazing time, and the children left feeling inspired, motivated, and excited about all the possibilities their futures could hold. It truly was a day to remember!

Here’s who came to visit…

Paramedic Team – who gave students the chance to try on real paramedic gear and explore life-saving equipment.

Local Police officers– who brought a real police van, police car, equipment, goody bags and introduced PC Peeler, the police dog mascot.

Farmer Mark – who showed off his impressive blue tractor and a variety of fresh vegetables, giving pupils insight into life on the farm.

Smileworks Dentistry– A dentist and dental nurse who discussed their job roles, taught the children about oral health and handed out goody bags.

Gav from the RAF– who set up a thrilling assault course that got everyone active and thinking about physical challenges in the military.

An Art Therapist– who explained and showed the children how art can be used to explore emotions and well-being through creative expression.

Author Hannah Collins– who shared her book ‘Little Legs, Long Nose: A Day with Monty the Miniature Dachshund’ and talked about what it was like to write her own children’s book.

Kyle and Elliot Bennett (Ex-Professional Footballers)– who inspired pupils with stories from their careers and their work with their Football Academy.

Matt from Fire Cover– who explained the exciting world of fire safety on film and TV sets.

The ‘Xscape Now’ team– who engaged pupils with escape room-style puzzles that encouraged teamwork and problem-solving.

Please take a look at our careers day video and some of the many photographs from the day. I’m sure you will agree from all the smiling faces, what a memorable day it was!

Curriculum Governors Involvement

The Curriculum Governors met this week and thoroughly enjoyed listening to a group of Mighty Oaks Nursery children talk about their experience in setting. They also gained a detailed insight into the planning, the training, the team and the challenges from the Nursery teacher, Mrs Pablos. The Governors can clearly see that the dedication of staff is ensuring the provision is continuing to operate at a high level. They are keen to support the increasing number of SEND that is apparent in the setting.

The Governors also had a focus on the curriculum area of Geography. Year 1 children came to show off their books and talk about all they had been studying. Governors believe that talking to children and staff is the best way to be assured about quality of provision and they look forward to carrying out more of this next year.

Year 6 Leaver’s Party

With the end of the school year fast approaching, we are excited to share information with you regarding the Year 6 Leaver’s Party. Different to our usual end of year celebrations, the children this year voted unanimously to have this event instead of our usual end of year production. This fun-filled event will take place on the last day of term, Friday 18th July 2025, from 1.15pm until 3.10pm; it will include music, food, games, photo opportunities, inflatables, nerf wars and much more! We invite two adults per child to join us on this occasion for a contribution of £2 per ticket (see Parentpay for further details), which will support the funding of the activities that have been heavily subsidised by school. We look forward to seeing you there!
