Year 6 – next week

Next week, year 6 children will have their PE on Tuesday and Thursday. For their trip on Wednesday, please ensure they wear their school uniform, with trainers, a packed lunch and a bottle of water.

Thank you

Mrs Poole is leaving Newdale

Dear Parents/Carers,

As much as I would like to retain all members of the fabulous Newdale team, unfortunately I cannot!

It is with huge sadness, but also huge congratulations, that I have to inform you that Mrs Poole will be leaving us at the end of the year.

Mrs Poole has been successful in gaining a new post in a different school in Telford and I know you will join me in wishing her the very best of luck.

Mrs Poole joined Newdale in September 2008 as a class teacher and has more recently worked intensively as our school SENDco. She has made a very significant contribution to so many areas of our school development and her experience in education will be gratefully received in her new role.

We have already put plans in place to ensure continued stability when she leaves. Mr McFarland is also SENDco qualified and he will take up this role from September.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Safeguarding, Health & Safety Governors Involvement

The Health & Safeguarding committee met in school on Tuesday of this week. They spent a lot of time looking carefully at the policy and advice around Martyn’s Law linked to site security and terrorism. Governors observed a whole school and nursery drill that loosely replicated what a lock down would be. Governors look forward to hearing feedback from a professional who is going to assess the Newdale site and feedback any points for development linked to security. Governors carried out their regular ‘spot check’ of staff to reassure themselves that the staff at Newdale are well trained and confident in knowing what to do should any safeguarding issues arise.

Year 6 Museum Workshops

Year 6 have had a brilliant day taking part in workshops from Shrewsbury Museum. They discovered about the life of Charles Darwin and how animals have adapted and changed over time.

In their Ancient Greek workshop, the children explored artefacts including drinking glasses, jewellery and arrow heads. Later, the children discovered the history of the Olympic games and battle between Athens and Sparta.

French Day – Friday 4th July

We are excited to announce our upcoming whole-school French day which will be on Friday 4th July  for pupils from Nursery to Year 6. This event has been designed to immerse pupils in the French language and culture through fun and engaging activities.

Pupils can come into school dressed in red, white and blue or even create a costume inspired by a famous French landmark. Throughout the day there will be various activities for the children to participate with including, cooking, handball, pétanque, Farandole (a traditional Provence dance) and much more.

Learning a language goes beyond vocabulary- it opens minds, builds confidence and encourages global awareness. By celebrating France, we help children develop a deeper appreciation for diversity and strengthen their language skills in an enjoyable way.

There will also be the option to have a French themed dinner which consists of quiche, ratatouille, and chocolate mousse, alongside the normal fish and chips which will be served.

If you would like to make a voluntary contribution of £2.00 to support the resources on the day, please log into parent pay.

Thank you for your continued support.

Year 6 Healthy Lifestyles Week Fun!

Year 6 have had a fantastic week so far as part of Healthy Lifestyles week.

On Monday, they all enjoyed rolling and bumping into each other while zorbing and on Wednesday, they took part in a freestyle football workshop and had a brilliant assembly delivered by Rebaz. There is also much more for them to look forward to later in the week!

Year 6 – Healthy lifestyles week – Zorbing!

Mrs Stack’s class kicked off their healthy lifestyles week in style with a fantastic session of zorbing this afternoon!

Don’t forget to take part in some exercise out of school and record your activity in your reading diary for the chance to win some fantastic prizes! You can also send photos of your participation to the year 6 inbox:

Happy healthy lifestyles week!

Art Day

This year’s Art Day will be held on Wednesday 11th June. Children will be taking part in a variety of creative activities inspired by the poems, rhymes, songs and stories they learn off by heart. Their shared masterpieces will feature a heart and be displayed around school later this term. Children (and staff) can wear dress-down/arty clothes or may even like to wear something featuring a heart! If your child usually has PE on Wednesdays, please ensure that their clothes and shoes are suitable for sports activities too.

Curriculum Governors Involvement

Our Curriculum Governors met this week and looked carefully at our curriculum development. As part of this they talked to a group of Year 2 writers with their books. It was lovely to see how proud they are of their work. The Governors also analysed the ‘Key worker’ project and the impact that has on children.

Finally, they looked at assessment of the core subjects of Maths and English and how target setting is shared with parents. Next time they look forward to another focus on how we are supporting our SEND learners.
