Reception News

Here is a reminder of the staff working across the Reception team.

Class intro page Year R 2022-2023

After half term, we welcomed back Mrs Cleobury from her maternity leave. Mrs Cleobury is one of our experienced Teaching Assistant’s and she will be working primarily in Miss Hailey’s classroom along with Mrs Stevens, though as we work together across the classes most days, all children in YR will be familiar with Mrs Cleobury too. She has really enjoyed getting to know the children since her return and meeting the families.

Remembrance in Reception

Today we learnt why it is so important for us to remember the fallen soldiers and what they did for us in the war. We also wanted to celebrate all the soldiers that are still fighting for our country and the amazing work they do.

We watched a video on cbeebies that helped the children to understand that there was a war, how the poppies grew on the battlefields after it ended and why the poppy now symbolises the end of the war.
Here is the link, should you like to watch it again at home:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/poppies

We then made our own symbolic poppies, using tissue paper, card and lolly sticks to mark the occasion.
We used construction kits in the classroom to make model tanks and the 2D shapes to create our own poppy pictures. We also enjoyed drawing our own poppies.

Finally, our teachers were so proud of us all as we joined in with the 2-minute silence at 11am. We watched the live silence on the BBC news to help us understand the scale and significance of this moment.

Perhaps you can ask your child at home what they remember and what they liked most about today?

Reception Bring a Bear

 Teddy Bear’s Celebration

This week we have been learning about Goldilocks. Goldilocks is very sad that she has upset The Bears. To cheer them up she would like to hold a Teddy Bear’s Celebration at Forest School. On Monday 14th November, your child is invited to bring in a special ‘teddy bear’ friend from home to join us in celebrating.

Please label with your name so we can ensure your teddy goes home safely. .

Reception’s Star of the Week

Congratulations Kyresse who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evan’s ‘Star of the Week’ this week for coming to school every day with a big smile on his face and a super attitude. Well done Kyresse.

Reception’s Brilliant ‘Belonging Boxes’!

Today in RE, Reception shared the BRILLIANT ‘Belonging Boxes’ they had created over the half term holidays.

The children shared their belonging boxes with the class and talked about what their box tells us about them and where they ‘belong’ in the world.

We looked at similarities and differences between everyone’s boxes and celebrated how everyone is different.

We then thought carefully about which kind of ‘belonging’ matters to them most. We discussed how belonging to families might matter more than belonging to a city, but both have their place.

Look at our ‘Belonging Boxes’. Aren’t they fantastic!
