REMINDER – Book Swap Day

After the amazing success of last year’s Book Swap Day, we’re bringing it back!

On Thursday 5th March, we’ll be running another second‑hand Book Swap Shop to celebrate World Book Day.

 How it works:
Children can bring in a book they’ve finished with (in good condition, please!) and swap it for another book. It’s a brilliant way to discover exciting books and share favourites with friends.

 Got spare books at home?
If you have any extra books you’d like to donate, we would be hugely grateful. Every extra book helps to ensure lots of children can take part.

If your child is taking part, please can they bring their old book/books into school on World Book Day on Thursday 5th March.

Children will swap books at their allotted time during the school day.

Let’s make this World Book Day full of stories, surprises, and lots of happy readers!

Playground donations needed

We would be very grateful for any children’s items you no longer need that could help enrich play during break and lunchtime. We are especially looking for things like footballs, tennis balls, hoops, skipping ropes, or small trikes and bikes that the children can enjoy outdoors. Picnic blankets are also a good option if you have any spare!

If you happen to have other suitable play equipment in good condition, we would be delighted to make use of it. Your donations make a real difference to the children’s play experiences and are truly appreciated.

Thank you for your support.

Supporting Young Carers in Telford Schools

Do you have a child who helps care for a family member or friend with an illness, disability, or mental health issue?

If so, your child might be a Young Carer! Young Carers often take on extra responsibilities, like helping with household chores, personal care, or emotional support.

At Newdale, we want to support our Young Carers and ensure they have the help they need to thrive. That’s why we’re working with Telford & Wrekin Council and other local organisations to identify and support Young Carers in our school community.

If you think your child might be a Young Carer, please get in touch with us. We can offer

– Support with schoolwork and attendance

– Emotional support and guidance

– Access to local resources and services

– Opportunities to connect with other Young Carers

To find out more or to let us know about your child, please contact Mrs Millington in the school office or our pastoral manager, Mrs Byrne Corbett.

Let’s work together to support our Young Carers in Telford! 🌈

Miss Lowe’s Newdale Cup Treat – Wheelie time!!

On Friday 6th March, Miss Lowe’s class’s Newdale Cup will be to bring their scooters or bikes and helmets to ride on in the afternoon. They can bring them Friday morning and we will park them outside the classroom door.

Helmets will be compulsory for that afternoon. We have limited spare bikes and scooters in school if your child does not have one.

We are looking forward to our ‘wheelie fun’ afternoon!

REMINDER – World Book Day Potato Character Competition – Where Stories Get Spud-Tacular!

To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 5th March 2026, we are inviting children to take part in a fun and creative competition at home.

 What to do:
Create a book character using a potato from home. Children can decorate their potato using craft materials, costumes, or props to represent a character from a favourite book.

Here are a few examples:

  • A potato dressed as Harry Potter with glasses and a lightning scar
  • Matilda potato holding a tiny book
  • Mr Men / Little Miss potato painted bright colours
  • Gruffalo potato with felt ears and tusks
  • A simple potato with paper eyes and a drawn-on costume

Please bring the finished potato character into school on: Thursday 5th March 2026

There will be prizes awarded for creativity and effort.

This activity is completely optional, but we hope lots of children will enjoy taking part. Please support your child in a way that suits your family, and remember that simple ideas are just as wonderful as detailed ones.

Thank you for helping us make World Book Day a fun and memorable celebration.

REMINDER – World Book Day – Stories that Add Up – this Thursday!
