Last Day of Term

We are looking forward to an exciting last day in Reception! We will be completing a ‘STEM’ challenge! We do not want to reveal the challenge just yet, but we can give you a clue it will involve lots of building using the large construction!

Please see below for further details…

Y6 – The Wizard of Oz

We know that you will want to fully support your year 6 children who have worked so hard to learn their lines and bring you their wonderful performance. For this reason, we respectfully ask that parents do not bring young children to the play which will last for over an hour. We know that young children can distract the performers and make it difficult for their lines to be heard.

The evening performance at 6pm is now sold out.

There will be a collection at each performance to help raise money for the school to purchase a new maple tree to replace a tree that had to be removed due to disease.

Any donations will be gratefully received.

Thank you

Reception Message

We will be sending home the children’s work books this week. Please can you send in a named ‘bag for life’ or strong carrier bag on Wednesday so that we can put the books in ready to send home.

Thank you,

The Reception Team :)

RSHE year 1

Good afternoon,

Tomorrow and Thursday year 1 will be learning about how their body is different from each others’ and how they are changing from reception to year 1.

This will be focusing mainly on observations like, “They wear glasses but I don’t,” or, “I have freckles and some people don’t.”
“I can tie my shoelaces now,” or, “I get myself dressed for school now I’m in year 1.”

The only non-statutory learning will be names of male and female private body parts, which we will complete tomorrow.
We will teach them by reading the following book with children.

After reading, we will explain that when we talk to certain people (like doctors or teachers) we should try to use proper scientific names but we can use the other names if we forget.

At Newdale, we feel this learning is essential and can help safeguard our children.  Children who know the correct words can, for example, better explain where a medical problem is to a professional. If you opted to withdraw your child from this lesson, they will be complete separate work naming other body parts (e.g. stomach, or arms, fingers). However, we cannot guarantee that their classmates will not discuss what they learnt with them.

Thanks,

Year 1 team

Wizard of Oz – reserve tickets

Reserve tickets for the Wizard of Oz are now live on ParentPay. These are being sold on a first come first served basis. Please note, only one transaction can be made. There is no limit to how many tickets can be purchased. Once these are sold, we are unable to allocate any further spaces.

Year 6 Leavers Assembly

Year 6 Leavers Assembly

For their final farewell, year 6 will be hosting an awards ceremony, distributing awards to peers who they have voted for in class. The assembly will begin at 2.00pm and there will be an opportunity for photographs to be taken at the end. The children can bring in smart clothing (such as their prom outfit), if they wish to change into this before the event, however this is not compulsory.

We ask that no more than two adults per household attend to ensure there is enough room in the hall for every6one.

Thank you,

The Year 6 Team.

Upcoming Arthog Trip

Dear Parents/ Carers,

The time for Arthog is fast approaching! As you know, we will be visiting Arthog the week beginning Monday 11th September. We will be travelling by coach, which will depart from school at just after 9:00 (to be confirmed). Please arrive at school at the normal time, however your child should come to the entrance of the sports hall so we can complete the register. Children will be required to bring a packed lunch for the outward journey. Please bring this in a disposable bag NOT a lunch box. If your child is likely to be travel sick, please give them a tablet first thing in the morning and let us know if they will require one for the return journey.

Other information:

  • Children can bring a maximum of £10 spending money in a clearly named, re-sealable moneybag so that any money that your child does not spend can be easily returned to you. Arthog have advised us to include some change in this as they have not got a lot! (Perhaps made up of a £5 note, 4x £1 coins and a pound in silver change.) This needs to be brought into the school office by Friday 21st July. It will be kept in a locked safe, until the opportunity arises for children to visit the shop at Arthog.
  • If your child takes regular medication, you need to ensure that a medical form has been completed – we cannot administer medication without your consent. Thank you to those who have sent these in already. All medication needs to be given to school along with the completed form by Thursday 7th September. We will not have time to chase and collate this on the morning of our departure. Asthmatic children and those with epi-pens will be given the school pouch they normally use in which to always keep their medication with them. If your child has an epi-pen, we will need to take three with us please.
  • Please ensure that your child does not bring a mobile phone, electronic device or camera; if they do, such items will be taken from children and returned to you when we get back to school. This is to avoid the danger of them being lost or damaged but more importantly is a matter of safeguarding.
  • Please do not give your children any snacks. for their time at Arthog. They will be very well fed with meals of a very high standard and there is always a choice on offer. We also need to ensure that the children have a restful night’s sleep!
  • Please remember to pack plenty of pairs of socks, including thick ones for wellies/ walking boots.

On the morning of the 11th, children need to come to school in casual clothes that are suitable for outdoor activities (no jeans please!). In previous years, children have chosen to wear the Arthog hoodies if they have ordered them.

The following Newdale staff members are going on the trip all week and will each support a group of children along with their instructor from the centre: Miss Jones, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Goodwin, Miss Marshall, Mrs Hickinbottom, Mrs Arthurs and Mrs Poole.

Rest assured that no news is always good news! Throughout the week, we will post daily updates on the school website via the school office. Please note that due to a poor internet connection at the site and our busy schedule, we find it difficult to post many photos of children. However, we will do our very best!

The group should return to school at about 3:20pm on Friday 15th September. Please ensure you are on time to collect your child from school – they will be tired and excited to see their families! Please keep an eye on text messages and the website for updates of arrival times should there be any delays.

We hope you have a restful week while your children are enjoying their week at Arthog!

Mr McFarland and Miss Jones.

Mrs Trevor’s BeSMART cup treat on Friday 21st August!

I was extremely proud of my class last week for their fantastic history work on significant nurses and the way the whole class followed the BeSMART code.

As a treat the children are able to bring a toy or game (no electrical devices) to school on Friday 21st August.

They will be able to play with them during the afternoon.

Thank you

Mrs Trevor :)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Towards the end of the week (Wednesday onwards) we will be beginning to send books home. Please send your child in with a strong bag-for-life on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
