Secondary School Applications – September 2023

The closing date for secondary school applications is 31st October 2022

Parent / Carers can submit up to four preference schools on the application and we encourage parents to apply for more than one school as if Admissions are unable to offer their preferred school they may be allocated a school that is some distance away if their catchment school is already full.  Each year Admissions see a lot of applications that have only one preference which can lead to a lot of disappointment when allocated a school some distance from their home address.

Parent View

Dear parents/carers,

At Newdale, we value your input as parents. One of the best ways to capture your opinions is through questionnaires. Once we have analysed parent questionnaires, we use the information gathered to make our school even better. For those of you who are not aware, we were inspected by Ofsted in 2017, where we were graded ‘Outstanding’.

We are overdue an Ofsted inspection which means our next inspection is looming. Before an inspection, inspectors visit Parent View (which is an online questionnaire which gives parents the chance to tell Ofsted what they think of their child’s school). As we have just started this academic year, we do not have any entries from parents. We kindly ask that you take five minutes out of your time to complete the short questionnaire. Our aim as a school has always been to provide high-quality education and school experience to all children, and by having lots of parents completing this survey, will enable us to continue to grow.

If you do not have access to a device to complete this, please let a member of our team know and we will arrange a time for you to complete it in school.

Grandparents Tea Party

Grandparents Tea Party

Monday 17th October 2022

We are excited to announce that we will once more be holding our annual grandparent’s tea party on Monday 17th October 2022.

We respectfully ask that only Grandparents attend this event. Please could all Grandparents arrive at school for 2.00pm at the main entrance where you will then be escorted to your Grandchild’s class (if you have more than one, we will try to gather them all together!).

You will spend around 30 minutes in the classroom where we hope you will enjoy some time sharing activities with the children.

At 2.30pm you will be invited to come to come to one of our refreshment areas with your Grandchildren for tea and cake / biscuits. We know it is tempting to sneak extra treats for your Grandchildren, but please do not, as we will only have catered for Grandparents. Children will get a biscuit!

Just before home time, your Grandchildren will return to class, and you will be asked to leave via the main entrance near the office. If you are taking your Grandchildren home, then you will be asked to sign them out at the main office.

Safeguarding: please remember that if you are not the usual person collecting, the teacher will need prior notice that you are authorised to collect – this is best noted by the child’s parent in their home school book.

This year we would like to link this event to the launch of our new GATEWAY project.  We are hopeful that some of our grandparents might be able to donate non-perishable food items or toiletries towards this project. These donations will undoubtedly support some of our families in our local community as everyone is feeling the pressure due to the cost of living.

Arthog Reminders

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our visit to Arthog is fast approach and we hope your child is looking forward to it as much as we are!

Please can all year 6 children arrive at the assembly hall doors on Monday 10th October at the usual time. Staff will be at the main school gates for the children to leave their luggage rather than bring it up to school. Please try to avoid blocking any main paths with the luggage.

A polite reminder that all medication and the £10 tuck shop money should be handed into the school office by this Friday (7th October), unless essential medication is needed over the weekend.

Please ensure children bring a packed lunch with them on Monday as this will not be provided and they will be able to eat once we arrive at Arthog, before starting their activities.

If your child gets travel sick, we recommend they have an anti-sickness tablet before school and bring a plastic bag with them, should they need it. We will ensure any child prone to travel sickness is sat at the front with staff and a friend.

We will keep you updated via the school website regarding our arrival time on Friday 14th, but we aim to be back in school for 3.10pm, however this may change depending on traffic.

Thank you for your continued support and co-operation.

Mr McFarland and Miss Jones.

Earth Day

Thursday 20th October will be Earth Day in school.

Pupils are asked to wear green or blue on this day. Any monetary donations are welcome and the money will be put towards a tree which will be planted in the school grounds.

We have a number of visitors on the day including Veolia, Street Champions from the council and a Greenpeace activist.

Children across school will be learning about a range of environmental issues including, fossil fuels, climate change, sustainability and ways which we can all help towards caring for our planet.
