Mighty oaks Wonderful Wednesday

As many of you know half of the Mighty oak children go to the Forest/Base camp on a Wednesday morning.  The other half of the class cook.  If it is your child’s turn to go to the woods please can you send appropriate clothing including wellies (named), leggings or trousers (in case of nettles) and clothes that you don’t mind getting messy.  Please can your child come to nursery wearing these clothes (apart from wellies which should be sent in a separate bag).  The following dates should be useful for helping you identify the weeks your child is heading to the woods…

Blue, green and yellow group on 5th May, 19th May

Purple, orange and red group on 28th April, 12th May, 26th May

Thank you for your support.

Curriculum Consultation – Year 1-6

Curriculum consultation 21.4.21

Dear Parents and Carers,

Today you will have received an email which outlines our consultation period connected to our relationships and sex education curriculum.

This email contains important information about what your child will be learning about in their class and a link to an online feedback form which outlines the content in more detail. Also included, is an information leaflet regarding the scheme that we use to support this curriculum area.

Please can you take a moment to review the materials that you have been sent, recording any feedback on the form. Please note, if you have children in different year groups, the links to the forms are different as the content changes.

Kind regards

Michelle Bishton

Deputy Headteacher

Nature Walk Thursday 29th April

Dear Parents/Carers,

Next Thursday afternoon, Year 5 will be going on a belated Spring Nature Walk in the local area in order to observe the fantastic changes of the season. We will be linking this learning to the children’s understanding of the life cycles of plants as well as how habitats can be impacted by humans.

Children should come to school in PE kit with long trousers or tracksuit bottoms. Please ensure that your child wears suitable footwear and coat according to the weather. We are hoping that the rain will stay away, however we will be going out in any weather.

Kind regards,

The Year 5 Team

Art in Reception 🎨

This week we have been learning about our year group artist ‘Kandinsky’. Perhaps your child can tell you about his abstract style using shapes and colour?

We learnt all about mixing colours to create new colours. Can you remember what colour is created when we mix yellow and blue? How about red and blue? Which new colour is made when we mix yellow and red?
Look at our class masterpiece created by collating all of our individual colour mixed circles.  We are sure you will be very impressed and may even struggle to decide which is the work of your child and which is the work of Kandinsky!

Year 4 Reading Diaries

As a school, the decision has been made that the normal system with regards to handing in of reading diaries daily will commence again. As well as handing in diaries daily, we will print off the spelling sheets and stick them into diaries every Friday. Times table homework will still remain on Times Table Rockstars. In addition to this, we will still be continuing to use the Year 4 email as a way for parents to communicate messages with the Y4 staff if you would prefer.

All of the changes stated above will start as of Monday 26th April 2021. In the meantime, you can either continue with the virtual diary or move completely back to recording in the physical diary this week.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding,

Year 4.

Reading Diaries

We are really pleased to confirm that we are able to accept Reading Diaries in class again on a daily basis, rather than weekly. This is fantastic news for us so that we can accept incoming messages along with your daily comments for reading at home. We will send home a reading book, but please continue to make use of Bug Club and Oxford Owl for a selection of great books too.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Reading Diaries

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are pleased to announce that reading diaries can recommence as normal meaning that they can come and go into school on a daily basis. This is a really useful tool for teachers to ensure that children are continuing to develop their reading skills at home. We would like to remind you that children are expected to read 5 times per week and are rewarded highly for writing detailed comments.

Kind Regards,

The Year 5 Team

Life Learning Parent Voice Summer 2021

At Newdale, we are passionate about ensuring that our children are well equipped for the world outside of Newdale. In order to do so, we provide opportunities for children to learn life skills and knowledge in an age-appropriate way. To support us with our curriculum offer, we would value your views on these topics.

Each survey will be put into a prize draw and have the chance to win one of three £10 vouchers for Asda. Please return to your child’s class teacher by Friday 7th May 2021. Following the completion of these surveys, we will then create actions to make our school even better in ensuring all pupils are prepared for life in modern Britain.
