Spellings and times tables

Don’t forget that you can also practise this weeks spellings and times tables at home too.

Spellings

This week in spellings we are looking at contractions.  A contraction is a word that has been shortened from combining two bigger words. An apostrophe is a punctuation mark used in the place of letters taken out of a word.

Can you spot the contractions in this video?

A copy of the spellings can be found here:

Times Tables

A game we play at school to practise our times tables is Hit the Button  https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Alternatively you could complete one of the worksheets below.

x2 sheet x3 sheet x5 sheet x 10 sheet

If you have forgotten which times tables you are working on then please email Mrs Thomas or Mrs Horler on newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Year 2 Home Learning continued – Wednesday 25th November

For Maths today we will be practising some mental addition.  You did an activity like this in class yesterday so you should remember what to do.

You will need a dice to play this game but if you do not have one at home you could use this online version https://www.teacherled.com/iresources/tools/dice/

Simply roll three numbers and then add them together.  To add them together you should put the larger number in your head and then use your fingers to help you to count on.  You can use jottings if it helps too.

T-N-4969-Three-Dice-Addition-Game_ver_1

Record your number sentence using + and = symbols, for example if you roll 4 and 2 and 5 you would write 5 + 4 + 2 = 11

CHALLENGE: Once you have completed your dice addition game, have a go at this challenge:

You can submit your work to us on the homework blog or email us directly on newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

If you require paper copies to complete this work then please contact the school office on 01952 387720 and they will be able to provide you with these.

Update for Yr 2 parents

Dear Parents/Carers of children in Year 2,

Thank you for your swift response this morning to our ongoing situation in school. Our Year 2 teaching team are busy setting up plenty of tasks for your children to complete at home. You will need to access direction from them through the school website on the Year 2 page.

We are following our protocol and taking full advice from the professionals at the Health Protection Hub. This of course will take us a small amount of time.

Please do not panic, we are one of the very few schools that have not had a positive case until now.

I will be in contact with further details very soon.

Thank you for your understanding.

We love the Autumn leaves… 🍁 🍂

Year 1 had such a fantastic time this afternoon playing in the Autumn leaves. They decided to make a ‘leaf pool’…

Year 4 Home Learning- Action Required

We have started to introduce the children to Google Classroom. If there is a positive case in our year group (fingers crossed that this doesn’t happen), and our year group is asked to self-isolate, your child will be able to access their learning remotely on this website. To increase your child’s confidence when using this platform, please can you encourage them this week to sign into Google Classroom and complete the Narnia quiz. Your child’s log in details can be found in their reading diaries.

Any questions or issues accessing Google Classroom, please let us know via your child’s reading diary.

Thank you for your support,

The Year 4 Team.

Google Classroom Pupil/Parent Guide

Logging In

If using a laptop:

1. Go to https://classroom.google.com and click on the “Go to classroom” button.

2. Enter your child’s school email address: firstname.lastname@taw.org.uk followed by the password.

3. Pupils will be presented with their classroom.

  If using a mobile app:

Pupils/parents have the opportunity to download the Google classroom app on their handheld device if a laptop isn’t available. It is free but you must remember to use your child’s school login details as opposed to any other Google account that you use at home.

Having logged in and choosing ‘I am a student’ (if there is an option) pupils will be presented with their classroom.

Viewing and Accessing Home Learning

Once logged in to Google Classroom, pupils need to click on the title of their class. Having clicked on this, they will then be in the Classroom. Here they will have 3 tabs in front of them: “Stream“, “Classwork” and “People“.

The “Stream” Page

This is the homepage for the classroom. Any new classwork or messages to the class from your child’s teacher will appear here. This page works similarly to a social network page. The most recent post that a teacher has added to the Google Classroom will be at the top and the oldest will be at the bottom.

The “Classwork” Page

This will allow you to view and access all the work assigned by the teachers. Teachers will upload work by topic. The activities are listed underneath each topic with a due date. When you click on an activity, it will show you the instructions and the option to view the activity.

The “People” page

This displays the class teachers and a list of children in the class. For safeguarding, e-mail access for all child accounts has been turned off.

Accessing and Submitting Classwork

From within the classroom section, clicking on any piece of classwork will display instructions from the teacher, along with any attached resources. Depending on work set, these attachments might include links to an online resource or activity, ebooks or fact sheets, quizzes, or a document template for your child to work from. Clicking on the attachment will open a new tab and allow you to view it.

Attached documents are saved automatically as they are edited and will be sent to the teacher when ‘turned in’. This can be done by clicking the ‘turn in’ button at the top of the document. For classwork that does not require turning in, such as completing an online activity, simply click the ‘mark as done’ button. This will inform the teacher that the activity has been completed.

If you have any questions regarding a piece of classwork, you can send a message to the teacher using the private comments box.

Hopefully, this guide has covered the basics and you should now be ready to start using Google Classroom.

Update 23.11.20

Dear Parents/Carers,

As part of our ongoing risk assessment, we need to ensure levels of ventilation across the school are high. We are told this constant movement of fresh air helps us keep our school safer.

This means that we need to have periods of time where the doors to classrooms and windows are left open. Before now, this was not too much of an issue but now the temperatures are dropping it could be.

Please ensure your children are adequately dressed e.g. with an extra layer under their shirt and of course please make sure they have a coat.

We continue to do all we can to protect everyone in our school, but we need your help along the way.

As ever…

  • Keep your children off school if they are displaying symptoms (do not risk it for the sake of everyone else).
  • Maintain social distance yourselves at all times and wear a mask.
  • Make sure children wash hands before arriving at school and immediately when they come home.
  • Keep us up to date – communication is key at this time.

If in doubt, call the office (01952 387720) and someone will do their best to help you.
