Year 2 home learning – Monday Maths live lesson

We hope you have had a great weekend. Year 2.

In Maths this week we will be working on telling the time.  We are going to start this learning tomorrow morning (Monday) at 9.30am with a live lesson on Teams.  It would be great if you can be there to join in the session, however please note that the lesson will be recorded for anyone who cannot attend at this time.

You should have received an invite for the Teams session.  However, if you have not please don’t worry as you can still join the meeting by selecting ‘join’ when you open the Teams app.

The worksheets the children will be completing after the live lesson can be found here.  (Please note that these sheets do not need to be printed out however each child will need to be able to see them on a screen after the live lesson so they can write down their answers).

The challenge question sheet is optional.  You can find that here.

Looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow.

From,

The Year 2 Team

Year 1 & 2 Star of the Week

Denis from Mrs McCullagh’s class for working particularly hard to write sentences all by himself, and even having a go at typing them up on a laptop!

Max from Mrs Plimmer’s class for coping really well with lots of changes in routine this week.

Year 2 Home Learning

From Monday 30th November, the Year 2 team will be delivering live lessons via Microsoft Teams. Today you will receive a text message containing your child’s login details, please keep this for future reference. We have written a guide on how to set up and use Teams which is attached below. We would really like as many children as possible to access the live lessons so your child can continue to make the best possible progress whilst at home.

At 2pm today the Year 2 team will be carrying out a test live lesson to check everything works. It would be lovely to see your child there (and it is a chance for them to see their classmates too!). The meeting today should only last around 15minutes.

The date and times of Teams meetings scheduled for next week will be shared via the school website prior to the meeting. We will be tracking the attendance of the meetings and hope that as many children as possible join the sessions so as to avoid further gaps in learning. The live lessons will be recorded so your child can watch parts again or catch up if they miss it.

Thank you for your support in helping your children access this digital learning.

Reception Home Learning in the Event of Bubble Closure

Reception Home Learning in the Event of Bubble Closure

As a school, we are opting to use Google Classroom as a way to share Home Learning tasks with you in the event of a bubble closure. More information about how to access this will be sent home soon. Reception will also continue to use the Evidence Me app as the main way to share your learning at home with us. Please find your child’s Google Classroom username and password enclosed in their reading diaries so that they are available when needed.

Many thanks,

The Reception Team.

Update 26.11.20

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you are aware, we closed the Year 2 bubble yesterday. We are grateful for all the kind words of support that you as the parent community have shared with us – it really is appreciated.

Mrs Bishton and I have continued to work with the Health Protection hub throughout yesterday evening. Some of the Year 2 pupils are required to self-isolate, meaning that they must not leave the house and return to school until 8th December.

However, along with the Health Protection Hub we have been able to identify a small list of pupils who have not been in direct contact with the positive case. This group of pupils do not need to self-isolate and therefore do not need to stay in their homes. We have contacted all of these parents directly to inform them. These pupils will still need to remain off school, as staff absence means that we are unable to cover in those class bases at this time. We are hopeful that as staffing issues ease, we can invite this group of pupils back to school sooner. We will be in immediate contact with these parents as soon as we are able to do this.

Many parents are asking for our advice in taking their child for a test. We are not medical professionals and can only follow the guidance we have all been given. Our advice to you is to directly follow the Government guidance below –

Symptoms of COVID-19
The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID 19) are recent onset of:
A new continuous cough and/or
High temperature and/or
A loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

If you or your child has any of these three main symptoms, you need to immediately get a test and self-isolate until the result is known.

Telford and Wrekin council are now asking you to book a COVID-19 test as a precaution, if you are showing other symptoms, such as:
Headaches
Aches and pains
Feeling tired for no good reason
Sore throat
Runny nose
Sneezing
Tummy ache in children

You can book a test online, it is quick and easy.
If you are booking a coronavirus test as a precaution due to one or more of the above symptoms, you don’t need to self-isolate unless you receive a positive test result.
However, if the symptom which is the reason for the test relates to vomiting and diarrhoea, you will need to follow our sickness policy and keep your child off school for 48 hours after the onset of the symptoms.

How to stop COVID-19 spreading
There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19
Do
– Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
– Use hand sanitiser gel (with 60% alcohol) if soap and water are not available
– Wash your hands as soon as you get home
– Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
– Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
All the staff and pupils here at Newdale will continue to work with the Health Protection Hub to ensure that the safety of our children is at the forefront of all we do.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Year 2 home learning Maths – 26.11.20

In Maths today we will be finding fractions of numbers.  This new learning links nicely to the work we were doing on division last week.

I have made a video to show you the method you need to use.  We will be using the sharing method (which is the one we used for division!) You can find my video here: https://youtu.be/0U3Ir826MYE

The questions we would like you to complete are here

Maths Thursday fractions

CHALLENGE!

If you whizzed through the first set of questions, we would like you to have a go at finding fractions when the numerator is bigger than 1.  I have made another video to explain this https://youtu.be/xzcoFWkV5TE

Your challenge questions are here.

Miss Jones and I are looking forward to seeing your answers.  Don’t forget to upload them onto the homework blog or email them to us at Newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Year 2 – Important Information

Dear parents and carers of children in Year 2,

Further to our communications today, we want to update you.

We have spent the day carrying out a thorough investigation and working alongside the Health Protection Hub.

In light of our investigation and information gathered via contact tracing, we have decided to close the Year 2 bubble from tomorrow for 14 days.

This means that all pupils in Year 2 will be required to self-isolate from now until 8.30am on 8th December.

Please disregard any communications that you have received today from school regarding your child coming back to school tomorrow and do not bring your child into school. Work will be set via our school website. Please contact us if you have concerns.

If your child shows any symptoms, please follow the national guidance given.

We appreciate this may cause some inconvenience, however we must follow the policy and procedures that we have been advised to.

Thank you for all of your support so far.

Kind regards

Miss Cook
