Message for Year 3 home learners!

Hello to our children currently at home.

As you are aware we are having a google meet session today at 11.30. In the meantime we would like you to let us know if you have any issues with accessing a device to use this learning platform. Similarly, if you have any issues with accessing the internet. This is so we can make arrangements to provide the correct provision for the children over the next few weeks.

Please email us directly as soon as possible to our class email newdale.year3team@taw.org.uk

Many thanks, Year 3 team

Update 5.01.21

Good morning,

Many staff working in our school have children of their own and therefore can completely sympathise with you this morning. We know that the last minute decision by the Government will undoubtedly cause mass disruption on so many levels. Many schools have closed their doors today in order to plan for the forthcoming weeks. We worked very late into the night in order to be able to at least allow some of our critical, key workers access to school places for their children, so that they can go to work to support us all. As you know, it is so important that everyone supports each other over this difficult time.

We understand that some people may have missed the communication that we sent more or less immediately after the announcement last night and we will look at what further we can offer later on today after we have processed the applications we have already received.

Please help us by not turning up for school if you are in anyway unsure as to if your child qualifies for a place. We are only able to accept certain children as per the guidance and only children that we have received a form from at this point. A ‘lock down’ is a ‘lock down’, and we need to only have children in school whose parents really do qualify as key workers please. Please also only take up the place if you really need it e.g. shift work patterns may mean you can in fact safely keep you child at home. Please do not be offended if we ask for proof of key worker status and even ask for shift patterns so that we can plan accordingly.

School staff will be contacting parents of children who we believe qualify for places who have not yet been in touch. Please wait for communication from school and access the online learning offer for your child today.

If you are struggling with accessing the online offer, please contact either the office or your child’s teacher through their email contact.

Again, thank you for all of your support.

Year 1 Phonics and Literacy – Tuesday 5th January

Hi Year 1!

We are really looking forward to seeing you all at 11am on our first Google Meet tomorrow morning.

Here is the Phonics and Literacy activity for you to have a go at tomorrow.

au Lesson

For Literacy this week, we are going to be focussing on a story called ‘The Way Back Home’, by Oliver Jeffers. For today’s activity, please listen to the beginning of the story using this link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbyUrb0X5iU

Please only watch up until the boy lands on the moon at 1:19minutes. At this point, we would like the children to predict what they think will happen next. Think carefully about:

  • What will the little boy do on the moon?
  • Will he meet anybody?
  • Will he go back at home? How will he get there?

Once you have discussed your prediction, you can draw 3 pictures to show what you think will happen next in the story.  You can also write a sentence to go with each of your pictures.  There is a template attached if you wish to print it, or you can work on a plain piece of paper.

Prediction Activity

Please don’t listen to the end of the story yet as we will do this in tomorrow’s lesson.

I can’t wait to hear some of your predictions in tomorrow’s lesson and would love to see some of your super work on the blog too!

Maths task 5.01.21

Hello Year 1,

Myself and Miss McCullagh are in school today planning fun activities for the rest of the week for you.

So to keep you busy I have set you a little Mathematics task.

Before Christmas we were learning about subtraction and we had started to subtract mentally.

Today could you have a go at the following ICT games and solve the subtraction sentences mentally by counting backwards.

In class we have been doing this by putting the largest number in our head, getting the correct number of fingers up that we are taking away and counting back on them.

Enjoy and remember if you have any questions or need some support please don’t hesitate to email the year 1 email address and a member of the year 1 team will respond as soon as we can.

Have a lovely day.

Miss Broadhurst.

Year 2 Home Learning Spring 1

Hello Year 2!

So it looks like we will be doing our learning from home again for a while but the good news is that we are already experts at this and you all did an amazing job last time! 😊

In Year 2, we will be continuing to use the website and Teams for home schooling.  We will also still be available on the email address newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk if you or your parents need to get in contact with us.

There will not be any live lessons today, as we are busy in school preparing for other work that we will be doing later this week.  However the Year 2 Team will be online at 11am to say hello to you all and for a quick catch up.  It would be great to see as many of you there as possible.  As before, you should receive an invite to this session however if not then you can ‘join’ the meeting through the Teams app.

To keep you busy before and after this meeting, we have set a few pieces of work for you to be doing.

Spellings

The spelling rule for this week is the ‘le ending’.  Your spellings can be found here

le ending spellings.

Please practise writing them out and you could even try putting them into sentences.  ✍️

PE

Usually we would have gymnastics on a Tuesday morning so you can choose which PE activity you would like to do for today.  You could do this Joe Wicks workout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3LPrhI0v-w or Cosmic kids yoga ‘Popcorn and the pirate’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_0P5grVoyg

Optional extension activity – can you research and then create a poster about a famous gymnast? You could choose Max Whitlock, Beth Tweddle or Simone Biles.

New Year Task

Can you answer the questions in these balloons? You could even have a go at drawing the balloons and stars yourself.

From Wednesday live lessons will take place each day, one at 9.30am and the other at 11am.  If you are unable to attend the live sessions, a recording of the lesson will always be available afterwards.  Worksheets and any further instructions will be shared via the website.

We are hoping that our online learning for the next couple of weeks will run the same way that it did during our lockdown in December.

If you have any questions please email us on newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Many thanks,

Miss Newport and Miss Jones 😊 😊

Update from Miss Cook

Update 4.1.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

As many of you will have seen, schools across the country are closed with immediate effect.

We are as frustrated as many of you are with this last minute change of direction.

As ever, we want to support you in whatever way we can. Our teaching teams are all set for online learning and will contact you either later on tonight or in the morning with more information.

We will be operating a limited offer in school to support some specific groups. Please open and complete this form if you think you qualify for this support.

We have already operated very successful online learning for 2 year groups in school and are confident that we can roll this out across the whole school quickly.

Clearly the big issue could well be access to digital devices for our children, especially if you have more than one child in need of access at the same time. Teachers will be delivering live sessions which will be recorded and shared. The intention being that children can tune into the sessions when a device becomes available to them.

We really do need your support. Children may well need an adult to help them log on and get started! Again, if you are stuck, email in to your child’s year group email that was posted earlier.

More information to follow tomorrow.
