Year 1- PE Days and Forest School

There will be no forest school next half term (it will resume again in Summer 1).

PE days will continue to be on a Monday (indoor) and a Wednesday (outdoor).

Don’t forget, you can contact the Year 1 team via the Year 1 email: newdale.year1team@taw.org.uk

We hope the children have a restful half term and we look forward to seeing them when they return.

Thank your for your continued support.

The Year 1 Team

Year 1- Miss Hill’s Class

We have had a brilliant week this week in Year 1.

In Art this half term, the children have been learning about Andy Goldsworthy (a sculptor inspired by nature). This week, the children have used clay to design and sculpt their own snail shell inspired by Goldsworthy.

Here are some photos below:

The children also had a great time this week, learning all about the Great Fire of London through a drama workshop.

The children enjoyed their BeSMART treat this week, playing with their toys from home.

World Book Day

World Book Day will be taking place next half term (Thursday 7th March). With the cost of living crisis impacting on us all, we wanted to make you aware that we will be organising a costume “swap shop”. We will explain details nearer the time but wanted to let you know in advance not to buy new, expensive costumes but to start digging out any old costumes you might have.

Year 1 & 2 craft club

We have loved watching your skills and confidence grow in the last 5 weeks :)

Please see some of the skills we have taught through the exploration of our Chinese New Year theme!

We have added to our dragons each week.

  • Year 2s were great at helping our year 1s draw around hands and cut out the tricky gaps between fingers.
  • We used cotton buds to print dots along our dragons’ bodies.
  • They have split pins to help them move.

We hope you like our super cool New Year dragons!

Last week we also worked hard to improve our painting techniques. We know how much paint we should have on our brush.

Year 4 – Making Torches

To link with our History unit, Year 4 have been using their Science and Design and Technology skills to design and create a torch to help a miner see in an underground mine. We had three criteria to meet in our design:

– our torches needed to light up,

– they needed a switch to be able to turn on and off,

– they needed to be portable

The children built an electrical circuit using a bulb and a switch. They made their own homemade switches using their knowledge of conductors and insulators. They then designed and built their torch. We were very impressed with their functional and creative designs.

Black Country Living Museum

Year 4 had such a wonderful day out at the Black Country Living Museum last week. We all went for a walk through an underground mine. It was quite scary but we really enjoyed experiencing what it would have been like to work in a coal mine.  We also visited an Industrial Revolution street and popped into some of the shops, attended a Victorian school lesson (on our best behaviour!) and played some traditional games.

Spring 2

Dear Parents/Carers,

Many thanks for your support across this last half term.

In Spring two, P.E and Crossbar days will remain the same (Tuesday and Wednesday). Mr McFarland’s class will continue to have their swimming lessons for the first two weeks back (Tuesday 20th and 27th). After this, Mr Jackson’s class will begin their swimming lessons, which will continue into the summer term.

Many thanks,

The Year 5 team.
