MOST IMPORTANTLY – have a lovely time in the snow, make memories, laugh lots and have fun!

Please don’t worry about printing the documents if you are unable to. You can just do the activities on paper, they are there as examples to show you the task.

Please send in any photos or work to us at newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk   or save it all and bring back to school on Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend.

See you next week :)

Do you want to build a snowman?

Good Morning Year 3,

As you will know, school is closed for today and we know that you are going to want to get outside for some fun! We challenge you to create a snowman based on The Iron Man! We will have prizes on offer for any entries sent into newdale.year3team@taw.org.uk so get building!

When you’re shivering and cold, warm up with some activities on Google Classroom to keep you busy today!

Search for classroom.google.com, use your normal username (e.g. joe.bloggs@taw.org.uk) and the password you use on Chromebooks to log in. Check the stream for Miss Clay’s instructions and you will find all the activities under “Classwork –> Snow Day 10th March.”

To share your work, you could send it to newdale.year3team@taw.org.uk

If you cannot access Google Classroom, you could…

  • Create a snow poem and perform it to your family
  • Go out and become a wildlife/landscape photographer to document the day
  • Write a diary of your snow day, focusing on adverbs (when, where, how)
  • Create a Science experiment to see how quickly you can melt a snowball by using different methods
  • Do some baking/cooking (with an adult) to warm up, write down your recipes
  • Ask a family member all about their favourite snow memories
  • Re-read your favourite childhood book EXT – Can you learn it off by heart?
  • Practise your times tables using snowballs, before throwing them!
  • Create an army of snow angels, then make them all different using natural objects, e.g. twigs/berries/leaves

Have a lovely day and stay safe!

Snow day

Morning everyone!

As nursery is closed today we wanted to share some super snowy activities that you could take part in at home.  The first idea is to look for footprints in the snow, particularly footprints that different creatures may have made.  If you do find some, can you identify what might have made them?  Please follow the link for some support with this.  Your child’s keyworker would love to see any that you find using the evidence me app.  Happy hunting! https://pin.it/3XRsFfn

Reception Snow Day!

Morning Reception!

What an exciting day, to look outside and see everywhere covered in snow again. We know you will be so excited to wrap up warm and get out there building snowmen (We would love to see your creations on EvidenceMe).

This week you have been busy in school learning about creating ‘repeating patterns’ and we made our own repeating patterns using the animal footprints  in the playdough. Maybe you could make real life repeating patterns outside in the snow using your own footprints today, or even with your family’s footprints too!

Can you draw any snowy day pictures?

We usually have PE on a Friday afternoon, which we know you all love. So if you are outside today this sounds like the perfect opportunity to keep warm by keeping active. Can you make some snow angels? Could you have a competition to see who can throw a snowball the furthest?

Mrs Thomas will be sending home some Read, Write, Inc videos as usual on a Friday, so if after your adventures you want to get warm back inside, then please pop these on while you have a warm drink and watch together, followed by a cosy storytime.

Thank you

The Reception Team

Year 1 Snow Day

Good morning Year 1! We’re sorry we had to close but we hope you will be able to enjoy some time at home today and most importantly get out and enjoy the snow!

Reading

As you know we LOVE reading at Newdale, here is a video of Miss Harrison reading a story we will be looking at very soon.

What book will you choose to read today? Also, look out for Miss Phonics… Oh sorry! Mrs Thomas’s post with a RWI phonics video just for you!

Geography/Science

We know how important it is to have real life experiences – so please get outside:
take photographs, listen to the sounds around you, or look for animal tracks.

Writing
Our up coming Science topic is all about weather and seasons. Could you write a description of your garden or street in your reading diary? Think about adding adjectives or the conjunction ‘and’. Here’s a great example:

I can see icy roads and footpaths. I can see frosty flakes fall from the sky and settle on tall branches. Bright snow covers everything I can see. It feels icy, cold and wet. I can hear the quiet drips of melting snow.  I can hear the crunchy thick snow under my feet.

I know some of you also love handwriting practise so here are some letters we’ve been practising lately.

Maths
We’d love to hear your highest score on Hit the Button https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button for number bonds to 10.

Art
We recently studied Andy Goldsworthy art. He makes temporary sculptures in nature. We think snow is perfect for this. Please send the year 1 email pictures of your snow structures (remember to ask your adult and wrap up in something warm and waterproof)! Here are some ideas… Although we love snow angels and snowmen as well if these don’t work.

We hope you have a fantastic day and look forward to seeing you on Monday,

The Year 1 team.

School and Nursery Closure – Friday 10th March

After a hair raising trip from Shrewsbury to Telford and a full site risk assessment with Mr Thomas, I have to make the decision to move to online learning today. Marlborough Way and Rock Road are treacherous and not at all safe. We have already had to rescue one person! I know the forecast is set to improve, but I don’t want an open then closed situation like yesterday as that is difficult for parents to plan around. I have let you know as early as possible. Teachers will be in touch. See you on Monday. Miss Cook.
