Monday’s phonics challenge

Happy Monday everyone!

Today I’d like your child to try a new game on Phonics play called Grab a giggling grapheme.  As your child is likely to be pretty confident with all or most of phase 2 now I’d like you to select the game at phase 3 and add on the sounds j,v,w,x,y,z,zz and qu.  Of course, if you don’t feel that they are ready for this please feel free to stick with phase 2.  Hope they enjoy the game.

Year 1 Guided Reading – Monday 18th May

Hello again,

Here is the Guided Reading story and activity ideas for you to have a look at over the next few days. I know many of you are going to love this story because we have really enjoyed learning about firefighters in the past at school. At the end of the story, the children are asked ‘What would you like to be when you grow up?’. I’m sure this will lead to lots of interesting discussions and there is a poster for the children to complete with a drawing and a sentence. We would love it if you could share your wonderful posters with us on the blog. 🙂

Hello Year 1,

I hope you have all had a fun and restful weekend and are ready to get back to lots of fun activities this week. As I mentioned last week, we are going to move onto to our new topic of Measure. This week, we will be focusing on exploring capacity and volume. All the information you need is on the picture or the PDF below.

We have got lots of fun and practical activities coming up this week. To explore capacity, we are going to need a selection of different containers. This could be pots, tubs, bottles, cups, pans, bowls… anything at all that can hold liquid.

Monday Phonics

For phonics today please practise your spellings. Remember Miss Hammond is still busy with Busy Bee making her fantastic videos to help you practise your flashcards at home and revise all your sounds. Seb in Y1 had a great idea to put his spellings into his own wordsearch. Perhaps you could try this today with parental help!

 Literacy

Hello Year 1.

This week we are going to be learning all about the seaside and coasts.

Perhaps you have been to a seaside before and can draw on your own experiences. If not, take a look at the PowerPoint attached. Imagine you are there and use your senses to describe what you think you could see, hear, smell, taste and feel.

Can you write your own Seaside senses poem? Don’t forget to include lots of exciting adjectives using your senses to describe the experience.

Attached is a template, but you could design and decorate your very own.
