Year 1 PE Days

Hello Year 1 families,

We are aware that there has been some confusion over PE days. Apologies for any misunderstandings. I can confirm that PE days are:

Wednesday (outdoor) and Thursday (indoor).

We have Forest School on Tuesday afternoons.

Sorry again for the confusion!

Many thanks,

Year 1 team

Remote Education Information to Parents

The information link below is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education where national or local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home. You can also view the document on the website in the section called ‘Parent guides’.

Phonics

Good morning!

I have shared what may be a useful link below to any parents that would like a bit of information regarding Phonics. It breaks it down nicely and offers ideas of how you can support your child with building up their reading and spelling skills.

A guide to Phonics- What it is and how you can support your child

Here is a little challenge for you to have a go at today to keep practising those phase 4 blends. Good luck, some are a little tricky!

Can you unscramble my words below and put them into the sentences?

  • claplo
  • flshe
  • tsakl
  • cripst
  • rexmtiu
  • ginterdn
  • dvrei
  • ydrege

1.When I am poorly, a bit of ……  often helps me to feel better.

2.Before he left home, the actor forgot to pick up his ……

3.When you turn 17 you are allowed to learn to …..

4.In the classic story, Jack grew a giant bean…..

5.The elf on the ….. made some funny appearances over Christmas.

6.The cake ……. was in need of stirring.

7.The …… child ate all of the sweets and then felt sick!

8.When something is popular on the Internet, it is said to be …….

Finally, don’t forget twinkl are offering free accounts and you can continue your practice with all their fun games. Or you may like to write words down on paper being sure to sound them out and break them down just like we would in school.

Miss Hammond.

Overviews of Maths content

Dear parents and carers,

Over the next few days, you will see your class teachers sharing overviews of maths content with you on a single sheet of paper.

These are called knowledge organisers and contain the essential parts of learning that your child will be covering in that unit of work. We need our children to know more by remembering more and these will help them to understand what are the essential parts that they need to know at the end of that unit of work.

The work that is set for your children will relate directly to the content on these. You can support your child by going through these with them and identifying if there are any aspects on there which your child needs extra work on. Your child’s teacher will be able to help you with this.

As always, if any help or support is needed, please get in touch.

Kind regards
Mrs Bishton

Update 12.01.2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are receiving some very positive comments about our online learning offer. This is great as teachers really are trying very hard to ensure the offer will ensure as much progress as possible. Mrs Bishton will soon be sending out a brief survey to allow us to collect responses to share with outside agencies.

It is important to note that the children in school receive exactly the same offer as those at home. There is no benefit educationally, in sending your children into school and in fact only an increased level of risk as far as the virus is concerned.

The message continues to be: keep your children at home if you can. It is only ‘critical’ workers who literally have no other choice that we are considering applications for.

We have been informed that we are to be allocated some additional laptops to support our home learning offer. If you really are struggling to access online learning and are currently relying on paper packs, then contact the school and we will see what we can do to help.

As you know the data is showing alarming increases in virus transmissions across Telford. We continue to do all we can in school to keep everyone safe, including regular testing of all of our staff. We ask that you continue to join us in this battle and importantly do not send your children into school unless you have to or if they are displaying any signs of illness.

At the moment we are lucky to have healthy staff to ensure high quality education throughout. If we have cases, this limits this offer and affects us all.

The new survey to fill out for a child school place for next week is due to be sent out tomorrow (Wednesday 13th January), with a deadline of 9am on Thursday 14th January. Please remember, that if you do require a place, we require the form so that we have enough time to verify status and shift patterns.

Thank you for your continued support.

Free twinkl resources and sign up

Good morning all! I have included a few links this morning to the wonderful world of twinkl. The second link should take you straight to a page where you can sign up and begin using the resources available from twinkl. This is a great resource for practising your phonics sounds. Once signed up, you can use the top link to take you to a phase 4 bingo game. Equally you can just search phase 4 activities once signed in and take your pick from the wealth of fun games and activities they provide. Good morning! I hope you had a lovely weekend. Here are a few activities to help you practice those sounds this week. We are looking at Phase 4 blends that include; lp, lf, lk, pt, xt, tr, dr, gr. Can you think of some of your own words for these sounds by having a hunt around the house and jotting them down in a list? Below is a word search you may like to have a go at and if you would like to, you can create your own by following the link. Don’t forget you can also use some of the games websites for a bit of Phonics fun too!

Year 1 – Message about logging into Google Classroom

Just a quick message about logging into Google Classrooms. We have had a couple of notifications about people attempting to open files, whilst logged in on a personal Google account. Due to the security settings, you will not be able to do this and will only be able to access the files using the Year 1 pupil’s Google Classroom log in. I have been in touch with our IT support and he says that it is a very easy mistake to made. If you go to Google.co.uk, in the top right hand corner you should be able to double check which account is logged in. It might be that it is defaulting back to a personal Google account that you have previously logged in with. In which case you will need to sign out of the personal account and sign in using the ‘@taw.org.uk’ email address that was set up by school. This will need to be done for accessing files and joining Live lessons. Any issues with this, please let us know! :)

Well done

Good afternoon Year 1.
Wow what a fantastic first week using Google Classrooms.
We are all so incredibly proud of you and how you have adapted to this new way of learning.
The work you have been completing and sending to us is amazing, you are working so hard.
It’s great to see so many of you on the live classes and also accessing the recorded ones off the stream.
Thank you all for baring with us as we get used to using this new technology.
We hope you have all enjoyed the live lessons and we are looking forward to teaching you live again next week.

We have so much fun planned for you.

We think you all (parents including) deserve to be on the rainbow.
Enjoy your weekend.

The Year 1 team.
