Year 2 Pirate Day!

Year 2 had the best day on their pirate adventures! Even the adults had the best day too!

Here are us scallywags in action! Hope you enjoy watching the videos as much as we had on our adventures!

Mrs Poole is leaving Newdale

Dear Parents/Carers,

As much as I would like to retain all members of the fabulous Newdale team, unfortunately I cannot!

It is with huge sadness, but also huge congratulations, that I have to inform you that Mrs Poole will be leaving us at the end of the year.

Mrs Poole has been successful in gaining a new post in a different school in Telford and I know you will join me in wishing her the very best of luck.

Mrs Poole joined Newdale in September 2008 as a class teacher and has more recently worked intensively as our school SENDco. She has made a very significant contribution to so many areas of our school development and her experience in education will be gratefully received in her new role.

We have already put plans in place to ensure continued stability when she leaves. Mr McFarland is also SENDco qualified and he will take up this role from September.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Water Safety

With the weather warming up and the temptation to go for walks and play outdoors, often looking for spots to keep cool, the risks near water for children can increase.

We know how excited children get by the water but standing too close to the edge can be dangerous. Please look at the attached link with the SAFE message, to Stay Away From the Edge.

It’s never too early to start talking to your children about staying safe near water.

Talk to your children when you’re out and about near water, whether you’re walking or cycling, out on a trip to feed the ducks or look at the boats.

There is a fantastic video and song to help your child learn about water safety and even a downloadable free story book with lovely pictures.

Safeguarding, Health & Safety Governors Involvement

The Health & Safeguarding committee met in school on Tuesday of this week. They spent a lot of time looking carefully at the policy and advice around Martyn’s Law linked to site security and terrorism. Governors observed a whole school and nursery drill that loosely replicated what a lock down would be. Governors look forward to hearing feedback from a professional who is going to assess the Newdale site and feedback any points for development linked to security. Governors carried out their regular ‘spot check’ of staff to reassure themselves that the staff at Newdale are well trained and confident in knowing what to do should any safeguarding issues arise.

Year 2 Pirate Day – Tuesday 17th June

Ahoy me ‘arties!

Year 2 will be walking the plank and taking part in a yo ho ho fun filled day as pirates. This will be next Tuesday 17th June.

We invite all the children in year 2 to come dressed as a pirate ready to set sail on our adventures for the day! You do not need to go out and buy a new outfit but can come dressed as scruffy as you like! Jeans/shorts, t-shirt and face paint for an eye patch as an example.  The adults will be putting on their scruffy rags too and dressing up as pirates! The rougher the better, after all they arrrrr little scallywags!

The children are invited to stay for tea with us at school that day (as stated on parent pay so please respond to) and we ask for children to be collected at 5pm from the back of the school hall.

We can’t wait to sail the seven seas and have a ‘Jolly Roger’ time with them all!

Any questions please email the Year 2 team

French Day – Friday 4th July

We are excited to announce our upcoming whole-school French day which will be on Friday 4th July  for pupils from Nursery to Year 6. This event has been designed to immerse pupils in the French language and culture through fun and engaging activities.

Pupils can come into school dressed in red, white and blue or even create a costume inspired by a famous French landmark. Throughout the day there will be various activities for the children to participate with including, cooking, handball, pétanque, Farandole (a traditional Provence dance) and much more.

Learning a language goes beyond vocabulary- it opens minds, builds confidence and encourages global awareness. By celebrating France, we help children develop a deeper appreciation for diversity and strengthen their language skills in an enjoyable way.

There will also be the option to have a French themed dinner which consists of quiche, ratatouille, and chocolate mousse, alongside the normal fish and chips which will be served.

If you would like to make a voluntary contribution of £2.00 to support the resources on the day, please log into parent pay.

Thank you for your continued support.

Art Day

This year’s Art Day will be held on Wednesday 11th June. Children will be taking part in a variety of creative activities inspired by the poems, rhymes, songs and stories they learn off by heart. Their shared masterpieces will feature a heart and be displayed around school later this term. Children (and staff) can wear dress-down/arty clothes or may even like to wear something featuring a heart! If your child usually has PE on Wednesdays, please ensure that their clothes and shoes are suitable for sports activities too.
