Mrs Trevor’s BeSMART cup treat on Friday 21st August!

I was extremely proud of my class last week for their fantastic history work on significant nurses and the way the whole class followed the BeSMART code.

As a treat the children are able to bring a toy or game (no electrical devices) to school on Friday 21st August.

They will be able to play with them during the afternoon.

Thank you

Mrs Trevor :)

Monday 24th July- Year 2 STEM Day

We are really looking forward to our Year 2 STEM day on the last day of term.

We are going to be doing lots of wonderful things including Zumba, making musical instruments, bubble making,  having a picnic with our favourite teddy (please bring one in)  and having a Year 2 talent contest.

Please can you send your child into school with a bag of recyclable items that they could use to make their musical instruments.

Year 2 DT – cooking and nutrition unit

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend.

In year 2 we will be making an exotic fruit salad in our DT unit.

We would like the children to bring in a small plastic box with a lid so they can bring it home.

Please ensure they bring it to school by Friday 14th July.

If any children have any specific fruit allergies that we are unaware of please email us or write in the reading diary.

Thank you

Year 2 Team :)

Governors involvement within school

Governors from the Finance & Personnel met yesterday and were thankful to a Grandma of a child in reception who came to talk through the induction process. She reflected positively in that the induction process is personal to each child. She felt the information she gained before her granddaughter started school was clear and concise.

A cross section of children came to talk to governors about their understanding of British values and the BeSMART code. Children could confidently articulate their understanding and how the values relate to their life, school and wider community.

Governors met with the After School Club lead and was reassured that the range of activities and snacks on offer is of high quality. Governors were happy that the After School Club with continue to facilitate trips and events in and outside of school. They approved more investment into new resources for the club.

Safeguarding, H&S Governors

Governors met with children and discussed their experiences regarding the recent Healthy Lifestyles Week.  It was very evident that the children thoroughly enjoyed the experiences. Governors questioned the learning outcomes of the event and were impressed with the children’s answers as to what they could improve on personally following the week and what they have learnt.

Governors approved and scrutinised a number of safeguarding policies. Governors carried out an audit and were again satisfied that their understanding about policies and procedures regarding safeguarding is robust.

Governors involvement from the Curriculum committee

The Curriculum committee meets every half term and yesterday governors thoroughly enjoyed listening to a group of year 3 children sharing French songs and confidently sharing their extensive knowledge on the geography and culture of France.

Governors were also super impressed with how articulately another group of children from across the school, could talk about physical and human geography. They explained how they use their skills and equipment to carry out tasks. Governors were happy to hear them talk about trips they had been on and the use of such technical vocabulary. Children were proud to share their geography books with governors, which clearly show progression from year 1 to year 6. Governors look forward next time to talking to mathematicians across the school.

Health and Safety Governor Committee Update

Governors met on Friday 26th May as part of the Health and Safety committee. They spoke to children in year 3 and 4 regarding the behaviour systems used across our school. It was clear to Governors that the children like the systems we have in place and believe them to be fair. The children could clearly see the benefits of following the BeSMART code.

The governors also spoke with the site manager, Mr Thomas. They asked him about the checks he carries out linked to site safety/maintenance, water safety, road/ traffic management and electrical safety. Governors were satisfied that his understanding of policy and procedure is robust and that his training is of a high level.
