Year 4 PE Days in School

Y4 PE days in school are on a Monday and a Thursday. Last week, they had PE on a Tuesday, but that was an exception.

Many thanks

Home learning for nursery children

I’m really sorry that I can’t see you all in person today at nursery.  Please can you support your child at home over the next few days and beyond by going onto your evidence me app.  As usual, we would love to see observations of your child at home, particularly if they meet their next steps.  Your child’s next steps are listed at the end of every observation that you can see on the app.  These are individual to your child alone and would help them to make progress.  All of the keyworkers are available via evidence me and would love to see photographs or videos of your child.  Equally, you can use this app to ask questions or seek support.  We’d love to hear from you soon.

Y4 Reading at Home

It is really important that you are all reading everyday and recording what you have read. So that we can monitor this, we have created a virtual reading diary for you to complete daily on Google Classroom. You do not need to ‘turn in’ every time you add to it as it will save and we can see your progress. It will be a working document. Please remember to use online books from the Oxford Owl website and Fiction Express as well as your home books. Adults in Y4 will be able to write in your virtual diary too and ask you questions like we would normally do.

We all look forward to reading your comments.

Question & Answer Sessions

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Follow the link below to join Mrs Powell and Mrs Huda’s question and answer session every Wednesday at 2pm. We have set aside some time where you can ask any questions you have and also let Mrs Powell and Mrs Huda know how you are feeling and how you are getting on with your online work.

If you are logging in as a guest, please can you use the child’s name so we know who is in our session. There might even be some special guests joining us from time to time.

Thanks

18.1.21 Online Learning Offer Survey

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope that you all continue to stay safe and well.

The best way for your children to continue making super progress during this difficult time is for them to access our very carefully planned Online Learning Offer. These sessions are as they would be if your child were in school and in fact are the same offer as the ‘critical worker’ children we have in school. Paper packs are a last resort and we discourage this if there is any way you can gain online access for your child. (Call us if you need help).

For those of you whose children are accessing learning at home, we are keen to gather your thoughts as to the provision that we are offering.

Please could you follow this link https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=2s8TOK9SpUy44yMVeXcKujfWR1zrUJ1JhQgacqv0-RBUQUcwTEc3ODlOMlhIMjEyRVVUTVFaVUwzTS4u and respond to this by Friday 22nd January at 3pm.

Every response will be read and used to further improve our offer if needed. Feedback will also be passed onto staff and governors, who I hope you will agree are working so hard to keep your child’s progress as the priority.

Kind regards

Mrs Bishton

Update 18.1.21

Dear Parent/Carer,

Like everyone, we are hopeful that the end is now in sight with the rapid roll out of the Coronavirus vaccine.

Over the weekend we were however informed of two positive cases of children, one in Year 6 and one in our Nursery provision.

Unfortunately, we have had to put a number of children and adults into isolation in Year 6 and the same for Nursery. Clearly the ‘track and trace’ method of detection is so difficult when the children are so young in Nursery and hence the impact of this has been much wider.

We want to reassure you that we continue to strictly follow all guidance as far as prevention of spread of the virus is concerned in school and nursery. It is so important that you also follow the national guidance at home. Please keep a very careful eye on your children and do not send them to school if they are unwell. Unfortunately Coronavirus in children can very often result in there being zero symptoms, which of course makes it very difficult to detect.

As a resident of Telford and Wrekin, you are allowed to access regular testing. We know that lots of families are doing this, which really does help us keep a grip on the virus transmission. If you can please follow this link and look to book tests as regular as you can –

https://rapidtest.telford.gov.uk

We are delighted with our online learning offer and hope you can spare a few minutes later today filling in the parent survey so that we can see clearly see what is working well and areas that we need to tweak.

Paper packs of work are an absolute last resort and no where near as beneficial to your children as the online lessons. We have been trying so hard to support all families in gaining online access. If you still are struggling please do ring the office and we will do all we can to get you up and running.

Thank you for your continued support.

Year 2 Home Learning – Monday 18th January

Hello Year 2!

We hope you have had a restful weekend.😊

There will be two live lessons tomorrow, Maths at 9.30am (looking at adding 10 to any given number) and Literacy at 11am (using ICT skills).  You should have received an invite for these sessions however if not, then you can join the meetings through the Teams app. Please come to each meeting armed with paper and a pen to write.

Following the Maths lesson, the worksheet below should be completed.  You do not need to print this sheet but the children will need to see it so they can work out their answers.

Monday adding 10

Your child may want to use a 100 square to help them to complete this Maths work.

100 square

Following the Literacy lesson, the work to be completed is on Purple Mash. https://www.purplemash.com/sch/newdale  If you do not have your login details then please email us.  The work is called ‘Pirate Words’ and you should find it in the 2do List (we will show you what to do in the live lesson!)

If you are unable to attend the live sessions, a recording of the lesson will always be available afterwards.  Worksheets and any further instructions will be shared via the website. We understand that this is tricky for some of you working from home, especially those with siblings so we understand that it is not always possible to join live. We hope the recordings help to support this.

Other home learning activities set for today:

Guided reading – please read the text and then complete the questions.

The tortoise and the hare reading and questions

Spellings – our spelling rule for this week is the ‘el ending’.  Please see Mrs Thomas’ website post for today’s activity.

el ending spellings

Times Tables – please see Mrs Horler’s post for today’s activity.

Don’t forget to email us any work that you do or post it on the Year 2 homework blog.  We love to see the work you are completing at home.

If you have any questions please email us on newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Many thanks,

Miss Newport and Miss Jones 😊 😊

Accessing Google Classroom

Hi Year 4

Well done on a fantastic week, we have been really impressed with the attendance on Microsoft Teams and the work you have been producing on Google Classroom.

I have attached to this post a walk through guide of how to access google classroom if you run into any difficulties getting to our class page.

We have also attached a guide for accessing the Teams live lessons.

Well done again for all your hard work this week and have an enjoyable weekend.

Well done Year 5

We just wanted to reiterate how amazing everyone has been this week in school and at home. Congratulations to the Stars of the Week especially. It was really hard to choose because we have received close to 1,000 pieces of work altogether! We are so impressed by the independence and work-ethic of this year group.

Please be aware that PE days in school will return to Tuesdays and Fridays next week.

Have a relaxing and well-deserved weekend,

The Year 5 Team
