Optional Homework

Year 3 Children,

If you have some time at home warming up from the wintry weather, you could create a fabulous fact file about our Animal Man visit.

You could focus on carnivores, omnivores and herbivores, thinking about the teeth and eye positions.

You might also want to research some of the gorgeous creatures in more detail.

We saw all sorts including:

  • wild boar, tiger and badger skulls
  • megalodon teeth
  • tree frogs and bull frogs
  • cockroaches
  • boa constrictors
  • leopard geckos
  • hedgehogs
  • chinchillas

You could present your work however you please!

Enjoy!

Water Safety Assembly

This afternoon we learnt how to help others in danger in water by raising the alarm, deploying a “life rope” and most importantly NEVER GOING INTO THE WATER TO HELP.

We also learnt how to form a starfish position so we can “float to live.”

World Book Day 23

The children looked amazing today in their WBD costumes. Every lesson today was linked back to Charlotte’s Web, our class text for this half term. Don’t forget to make good use of the £1 tokens!

Life Learning – Ramadan

As part of our life learning unit on diversity, we have been reading about a Muslim child named Omar who celebrates Ramadan. We used this as an opportunity to research the festival. We reflected on making positive changes whilst creating Ramadan art.

World Book Day – Thursday 2nd March

Dear Parents and Carers,

This year’s World Book Day will take place on Thursday 2nd March with the theme “You are a reader!”

Due to the success of our last Book Swap Day, we will once more run a second-hand book swap shop. Children who bring in a book that they no longer want can swap it on the day (books in good condition only please).

As usual, we are all looking forward to seeing your child dressed up in costume as one of their favourite book characters. Teachers cannot wait to get involved too!

The World Book Day website has lots of ideas on how to do this with as much or as little effort as you would like. There are some excellent ideas to get you started: Dressing Up – World Book Day

However, children are equally welcome to come to school in their pyjamas all ready for a bedtime story if they prefer – just remind them to bring their favourite book too!

Your child will receive a £1 book token to spend on a FREE book, or to save £1 on another full price book of their choice. Full details are available at www.worldbookday.com where you can see the fabulous books that are on offer this year.

World Book Day is a super event to celebrate reading, but reading to and with your child is important every single day to ensure your child can learn to their fullest potential. We would love to see photos of you reading with your child – please stick them into your child’s reading diary if you can!

Happy reading,

 Mrs Thomas

Message from Buddy the Bear!

Staff have talked to children today about Buddy the Bear and that he hopes they all think about the ‘M’ this holiday.

Please see below letter from Buddy the Bear to children.

Have a great half term!

Hi children,

Sorry I have not been to Newdale in a while, but my best friend Cool Cat has told me he was in with his kittens a little while ago and said he loved seeing everyone.

I know you will have all been following the BeSMART code brilliantly this half term and I can’t wait to come and see you all again after the holiday.

Here is a great shot of Cool Cat!

Remember our BeSMART code needs to be followed at all times, not just in school. It would be brilliant if you could concentrate on the ‘M’ this holiday and make home enjoyable for everyone. See how you get on.

Take care everyone and stay safe.

See you soon. Your friend Buddy Bear x

Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre

What a fantastic trip to link to our learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age! Thank you to the parent helpers who were fantastic! Well done Year 3 for representing Newdale so strongly with excellent behaviour and superb listening.
